CNET Editors' review

Excellent
  • THE GOOD

The Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless-N Router offers excellent performance and includes a nice set of features. The router also has an aesthetically pleasing compact design and an intuitive software application to help home users set up and manage their home wireless network with ease.

  • THE BAD

The Linksys E2000 can't operate in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands at the same time. The router's Web interface and desktop software don't work together, and neither offers complete control over the router's configuration. There's also no USB port to host network storage or printers.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE

The Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless-N Router is the fastest router we've seen in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and will definitely make home users happy with its easy-to-use setup software. Advanced users, however, might find its desktop software and Web interface combination a little disjointed.

Great priced wireless modem with a sleek design!

Created: 05/04/11
I purchased the Cisco Linksys E2000 N Wireless Router for presentations on how to set up a secure wireless home network that I was giving in a few local libraries.
All of the articles I read on the E2000 seemed to indicate that it was easy to setup. This was important to me, as the audience that I was giving the presentation to were not network gurus. The setup and instruction CD was very easy to use and worked perfectly to install the secure network.
After I am finished with the demo’s, I plan to install it on my own home network. With that in mind, the E2000 seemed like a good fit, both in the high performance and the pricing. Plus, as an extra bonus it has a sleek design with no antenna's sticking up out of the back of it.
I highly recommend that you take a look at the Cisco Linksys E2000 N Wireless Router if you are planning on going wireless!
BTW: The one that I purchased was a Factory Reconditioned Unit…Just like brand new.

This router seems decent enough. Just a warning, I would recommend disabling the guest wireless access. It creates an additional network with "-guest&amp;amp;quot; added to the network name. Guests use this network, along with the a web page and password you configure. Cool! ... I like that. They keep away from my printers and internal network stuff.

Problem is it slows down the main network. I did not figure this out until I had my ISP tell me my router was SLOW. I tried disabling that service and it was looking much better. I'm still considering swapping it out for a faster one since I've only had it a few weeks, but it did almost 4x my upload speed and double my download speed (ISP speed that is). Keep in mind my internal network should be operating at the same speed. (at least 56-144 MBS wireless, 1 GB wired). However, I guess problem has less to do with the broadcast speed ... more with the internal router processing. The switch in the router seems to have some logic that is much faster when you turn the second network off.
Just turn it off. Trust me. ;)

... Or just use a web site that allows you to test your download speed and do your own little tests.

Enjoy!

Great Router...Fast and Easy set up...Reconditioned Router

This is a fantastic router. I would definitely buy this again. It came with the disc, power cord and Ethernet cord. I was able to make this work on Windows XP and Windows 7. Running 3 PCs through this router using Cable Broadband Internet. My husband cannot believe how fast his wireless connection is! He previously used a Sprint 3G Air card.
I did have some issues setting it up, but it was user error! If you are able to connect to the wireless connection, but cannot connect to the internet, make sure that you have deselected proxy settings in your internet browser. VERY IMPORTANT. I spent several hours on the phone with Cisco Tech Support and with the computer manufacturer's support and no one suggested to check my proxy settings! I suppose that is the only negative experience, but it is not the router's fault, although it should be listed in the trouble shooting guide.
From your Internet Browser - Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings. Deselect the check box under "Proxy Server" that starts with "Use a proxy server...".

A little difficult to setup (setup cd was missing from my seller) But, chat support and software got it up and running. It seems to work great, but it's only been a few hours. I would recommend this router. This router replaced an off brand router. When it comes to wireless routers and kethup, go with the name brand.
