Movie synopsis

Madeline and her 11 friends live at a school run by Miss Clavel in an old house in Paris. Madeline is the smallest of the girls and also the most adventurous. The future of the school is in jeopardy when its stuffy owner, Lord Covington, decides to sell it. With Pepito's help (the devilish son of the Spanish Ambassador who lives next door), the resourceful Madeline hatches a plot to save their beloved home, but along the way the children encounter some bumbling would-be kidnappers on a visit to the circus. It's up to the indomitable Miss Clavel to come to their rescue.

Wonderful Children's tale!

Created: 03/03/11
"In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines. In two straight lines they broke their bread and brushed their teeth and went to bed. They smiled at the good and frowned at the bad and sometimes they were very sad. They left the house at half past nine, in two straight lines, in rain or shine — the smallest one was Madeline"

This is a live action movie version of the wonderful books by by Ludwig Bemelmans. Much more fun than the animated cartoons!

The movie is made up from four of the children's books, and stars Hatty Jones as Madeline, Frances McDormand as Miss Clavel and Nigel Hawthorne as Lord Cuckoo Face aka Lord Covington.

Before we started reading the books to her, my granddaughter was totally captivated with this movie, and when we found the books, she became even more the fan!

Great Comedy for Children

Created: 20/10/06
In this movie, Madeline, your youngster will recognize the character from books or watching the Discovery Channel. Young Madeline lives in a boarding school with a dozen other girls and she is the shortest of them all. Madeline was hospitalized for an appendectomy and begins to roam the hospital. She finds they are selling the boarding school and tries to do what she can to save it. She meets Lady Covington who is the wife of Lord Covington and is dying. A Spanish Ambassador moves into the house next door and has a son Pepito (cool name)who travels about on his very noisy Vespa. Madeline meets Pepito and he helps her with the mission. This DVD also includes the comic strip Madeline as well as some photos.
