Subpar equipment
Created: 05/12/10
I bought this new and have had it nearly two years. The vcr half quit working shortly after the warranty expired so I had to pay for repairs. It was a little bit of a pain dealing with the Magnavox service department. Anytime the electricity goes out for even a second, the clock and timer settings need to be reset. Now my remote control is working only a portion of the time (with new batteries). On the positive side, dubbing from VHS to DVD has worked well (after I had the vcr repaired) with good quality, and the quality of recording a TV show to DVD also is good. But, if I were going to buy another vcr/dvd recorder combo, I'd buy a different brand based on the problems I've had. There sure seem to be a lot of reconditioned Magnavox models for sale on eBay, which makes me think that there have been a lot of problems with this model.

A great product with many integrated features all-in-1.

I purchased this product to make dvds from VHS tapes and in some instances vice versa. I also use it to transfer 8mm and VHS-C camcorder recordings directly to DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. I also purchased it for the fact that it has HDMI output for 1080p resolution and I have a 32 inch HDTV(even though it only supports up to 1080i resolution). The variety of inputs and outputs make this model very versatile for varying preferences of the user. The only thing this model really lacks is an ATSC tuner, but I knew that and I have no desire for that feature. So if your needs are the same, I highly recommend this model as it's easy on the budget. You may have to do a little reading in the manual to get a gist of some of the more specific DVD recording/formatting/titling features but this model is easy to use.You could buy a higher priced brand name than this, but if you're concerned about a refurbished product and its reliability, I recommend a Square Trade warranty to cover beyond the manufacturer's 90 day refurb warranty. They have reasonably low cost warranties with excellent coverage!!

Great Unit for the money.

This is used in our church for Audio/Video playback. I purchased two units from these guys; one with a TV tuner and one without. Both work very well and at the prices we paid, you would be hard pressed to find a better value. The condition of our units/remotes, where just like brand new. The audio and video quality is great. I'm not pretending this is a high end machine or anything but very good none the less.. Based on our experience, I would highly recommend this unit.

I bought it to convert my old cam-corder tapes to disk. I figured that if it only worked till I finished the project that it was well worth the $100 I paid since I thought that getting the job done by a proshop would be much more expensive and they would not have the time to devide up or recombine subject matter like I did.
I think I have accomplished my mission and the unit is still burning disks so, I am very happy. I will try and convert some store bought VHS although according to instructions, the machine is not supposed to do that to copy protected media. In which case I hope to use the machine to just play those tapes. I know that my VHS deck works cause I already converted one of my home-movie VHS tapes to disk. I was a little apperhensive about buying refurbished but this is the second time I got lucky and had no problems. I would buy this again if I had to.
