Nice little prime wide angle lens that will do a great job for you until you get yourself a Minolta 28-135 lens. Takes fabulous photos, fast AF, short MFD, and a great bargain on ebay at around $100

Konica Minolta Maxxum AF 28 mm F/2.8 - a decent lens, not too expensive

This is a decent lens, but not among the best Minolta made. Mine was soft compared to my 35mm f/2, but then the 28 f/2.8 was originally an under $100 lens in the early 1990's, and the 35mm sold for $400, so you would expect a difference in quality.
A warning about the eBay stock picture. The image is not of the Maxxum mount lens, it is the Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AF lens. The Maxxum mount lens does not have white writing the way the Nikon lens does. Just a warning for anyone relying on the image to list or buy the lens.
Update: Perhaps I was too hard on this lens. Out of curiosity I bought two more for testing. One was the same as mine - a bit soft, especially at the edges, and the other, well, the other was really good. This is a lesson in sample variation and the problem with used lenses. Some are good, and some less so, even when dealing with the same brand and model. Of course I am keeping the really good one. And you as a buyer don't know which type you are getting - an average or poor sample, or a really excellent variant, until you test it yourself.

This is an excellent lens for astrophotography. The fast f/2.8 aperture allows me to capture wide angle milky way images.

Not happy

This lens will not work on my Sony like most minolta lens would. Once i realized this I asked for a release only that didn't happen. Now I have a lens that I need to find a home for.

Great wide-angle for full-frame or film Minolta Maxxum or Sony. Medium angle for APS-C. AF works great, lightweight and a lot less money than newer alternatives
