Super, super driver--high launch and LONG
Created: 25/05/09
I've tried lots of different drivers, including the new Taylor Made Burner which I just sold to a buddy (with the Fuji Tour Platform shaft, no less!). I played the Mizuno MP-001 a several years ago and really liked it, so when I was shopping around for a new stick I thought I'd try this one. It is true that it makes a sort of loud and hollow sound as many of the new, big drivers do (including very expensive ones by Callaway et al, by the way). But who cares, this driver is the longest and straightest I have played. It sets up nice and square--not overly closed like some of the newer 460 drivers--and you can work the ball with it like a player's club if you want. It hits the ball high--the launch angle and hang time is amazing--and is remarkably straight and forgiving. The head seems to be really stable and well-balanced, and the look at address is more traditional than many of the newer drivers--really a sharp club. I have heard mixed news on the the new MP driver regarding forgiveness, and this appears to be an advance on the MX in terms of distance, so if you're interested in Mizuno for a driver, this may be your stick. I play it in the factory issue Exsar 3 shaft in stiff flex, which is a great shaft for me. Mizuno is famous for their irons, but they should be equally well-known for their woods, if this club is any indication.

mizuno is high end and yet not known well. i have four sets of mizuno irons and four drivers. one MP 33 classic blade and three T-zoid pro iron sets. the drvers complement them . learning to use each takes work but the feel of a forged club is impossible to describe but you know it when you feel ---like good sex with a lover....O not too disasteful for you delicte types i hope....

Head feels very light making the club have a quicker (at least feels quicker) swing speed. Club also has somewhat of a egg shaped head, or maybe better described as "un-traditional". The one quality I do not like is the "ping" sound of the head when striking the ball. I has a hollow type sound instead of a solid type sound. Overall, I am satisfied with the club and it's performance, but I am not sure it is an improvement over my MX-500.

It is simply the best driver around, and I am not just talking about the price as new models and improvements have come around such as the MP-600 and MX-700. It is the most forgiving driver in its class yet has such a sweet spot that has given me 50 or more yardage to my already 250+ yard strikes from before. Anyone who is serious about golf needs to buy this driver. I can only expect the new improvements in the newer models to be even more excellent, if that is even possible...Mizuno, you guys are geniuses!!!

This is the most forgiving driver I have ever hit. Miss hits, off center bad swings yield a playable ball. Loud report on impact not as bad as they say. Lovely crafted club, quality through and through. Came from a Taylormade R7 which was very unstable in comparison. Now I can full swing the driver for the long ball again. I echo the sentiments of all the reviews I read on this club, If you need a break off the tee from disappointing drives, this is the best $100 or so you can spend IMO.
