Mothering Your Nursing Toddler
Created: 18/01/10
This book is an excellent resource for any mother nursing after 1 year. As far as I know it is the only book to deal exclusively with toddler nursing. After "The Womanly Art of Breatsfeeding" this is the best book that La Leche League has to offer. Mrs. Bumgarner's positive input into this taboo subject in our culture is enlightening and backed up by many studies and sources.
It can feel very lonely doing something that is either hidden in our society or not condoned at all, but "Mothering Your Nursing Toddler" can be your guide to seeing what is really the normalicy of many other societies in the world.
The chapters cover many bumps in the road of toddler nursing, from getting adequate sleep, to dealing with criticism (my favorite chapter), to how little ones need to nurse to feel safe and grow strong. Mrs. Bumgarner is incredibly wise and sensitive. For any mother worried about any numerous issues to do with nursing a little person this book is like a comforting friend.

I do love the frequent use of quotes from nursing moms. I don't love her writing style and I don't agree with everything she says. I am glad that this book exists and hope it will continue to encourage the normalization of extended nursing.

Great book so far! Makes me feel much better about the decision to continue nursing my baby past 12 months of age. I don't personally know anyone who has nursed this long, so the book really helps!

This book has answered all of the questions I had about extended nursing, and I continue to use it as a reference. It offers support and reassurance for mothers who are or will be nursing a child over 12 months old. One chapter even deals with how to deal with criticsm from others. The book is easy to follow and well-organized, and I would definitely recommend it to all nursing mothers.
