If you are a fan of the Drizzt novel series, then you will really enjoy the next installment of the Neverwinter series by R.A. Salvatore. Salvatore's strength remains in his world-building vision, and his ability to choreograph an intense battle scene. As always, he incorporates the perfect mix of action, adventure, romance, intrigue, and comedy into his most recent work.
This book is different than the others starring Drizzt in that the dynamics are completely changed. He has a different supporting cast in Dahlia, an elf he met in his travels to Gauntlgrym, and he is forced to feel out this new relationship while at the same time feeling out this new world that everyone has been thrown into, where the balance of law has shifted to lawlessness since the Spellplague and collapse of Mystra's Weave.
The main plot focuses on the recently-destroyed, currently-under-construction city of Neverwinter, where there is currently a turf war raging between groups with conflicting views. And of course, Drizzt finds himself in the heat of this newest battle with his new friend (former foe) Dahlia. Their styles compliment each other in a different way than Drizzt fans will be used to, in that Dahlia isn't exactly a good character, while she isn't exactly evil either. Cynical is a good word for her. The lines between right and wrong have blurred in this new land, where darkness prevails, and Drizzt and Dahlia will be forced to cut a path through enemy lines and get to the source once again.
You will not be disappointed in Drizzt. He still has his charm and optimism, a new and powerful ally in Dahlia, his old friend Guenhwyvar, his signature scimitars, and of course, his lust for a good battle. And he also runs into some old characters you may remember.
