top TV movie based on the best seller by William Shirer. William Shirer a reporter and reporter wife Tess live the "Nightmare" of Berlin just before the start of WW2 and into the War Sam Waterston is excellent AS William Shirer...a real life reporter... as he ferrets out the real story and inspite of very heavy censorship by the Nazi press he manages to keep a diary and send out the real story going on inside Nazi Germany. ADD a great side story about a Jewish Family hiding and absolute control the Propaganda Press had over the minds of every German. Very well done. Add the added story of a Lutheran Minister who is willing to risk arrest for the story of the how the Nazis took over total control of the Church in Germany~ I give this a sold 7 out of 10. BASED on the best selling novel by William Shirer. Worth the watch to see the finale and brilliant "escape" by Shirer as the Gestapo is hot on his heels~

Being a child during this period I have become interested in movies that can afirm how it was in my mind. This movie caught my eye at the video store and I wanted to have it after seeing it. I do like Sam Wattersman too. The acting and setting was believeable of the period.He tried desparately to get someone to pass up the line information that our government should know and act on. This is a clear warning to us in the present to not ignore and feel unaffected by what is going on elsewhere as it was in The Nightmare Years.Pay attention!!!We are very much at risk for the same thing happening again.The video store clerk told me that recently a civics teacher had listed this movie as one to watch.I hope many people feel the need to see this movie for their own edification and it is truly a movie to enjoy for the intrigue, personal relationships,and history.

It is especially important with regards to history, I can't tell you. The world must never forget the terrible things Hitler did. WHY? If the world forgets, or does not learn to be tolerant of people, then history could repeat itself. I purchased it because, my late father started to record it years earlier, and when the taped stopped, I, of course had to buy the tape, to see the ending of the movie.
