Nice bokeh~ nice f1.4 at the price~get one and have fun with it~
The lens is well build instead of "plastic lenses", of course it adds more weight. F1.4 isn't that sharp as i've expected but F1.8 is at it's optimum.

Product description

Product Information
The Nikon Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4D is an AF camera lens specially designed to be the perfect first lens for someone who is just delving into photography as a hobby or as a business. Affordable yet not lacking in the features that photographers demand of an AF camera lens, this Nikkor AF lens sticks to the traditional seven elements within six groups layout. This particular layout allows the Nikon Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4D to deliver distortion free images that feature superb color accuracy as well as resolution. With the aperture on the maximum setting, this Nikkor AF lens still delivers a high contrast. Due to the 50mm focal length, there is no distortion on the perspective with the Nikon Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4D. The DX format allows this camera lens to function more like a short telephoto lens, which makes it ideal for shooting portrait.

The lens is well build instead of "plastic lenses", of course it adds more weight. F1.4 isn't that sharp as i've expected but F1.8 is at it's optimum.

I was a Minolta user and have used Minolta 50mm f1.8 before, and i PERSONALLY think he color and shaprness of Minolta is way better than this Nikon 50mm.

anyways, what I like is the creamy bokeh with this lens than the Minolta and the fcus speed is extremely fast, though noisy.

I'd recommend you get one! it's a very fun lens to play with. Take note that you wont get autofucos if you don't have a built in motor in your Nikon DSLR.

***always check back/front focus test and calibrate it if you get a second hand copy.

Great lens. For less than 200 dollars you can get a AF and fast lens. worth every single bucks. Only drawbacks is that the focal length is a bit too long on a DX format camera (1.5x50mm=75mm). Must buy for FX camera.

I love this lens. I bought it for my Nikon D3100. I was hoping to get some nice portraits with a pretty blurry background. This lens helps me achieve the bokeh I was hoping for. The images are perfectly clear and so easy. It is great for portraits but not as good for landscape pictures. It is a manual lens, so if you don't know how to shoot in manual, you won't be able to shoot at all. Best of all, it was a great price. It's hard to find a lens under $200.

I own a D300s with a 16-85 zoom and wanted a lens with more speed and a little reach for some sports and portrait work. This little lens is very sharp, and focuses fast and much smaller and lighter than my zoom. A great value with 3 + stops gain or about 10x brighter at the zooms 50mm setting. I leave it on my camera at work since that range is all need there and I am not wearing out my 3x more expensive zoom that I use out.

Excellent result in low light conditions and in-house portraits. You can refer to www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/5014af.htm that puts lot of information regarding this. My particular interest was to get a prime lens for low light inside home photography.
