The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is one of if not THE best gaming console. And yes, that includes today's "advanced" consoles. the SNES sported, by far, the most extensive and fun game library to date. The cartridges still work fine today as they did the day they came off of the assembly line back in the 90's. The 16-bit graphics offer a certain atmosphere and charm that games today can't touch, unless they revert to this design. The games of the 16-bit era were fun and did not overload the player with information on-screen or via tutorials.
Some of the best games in history and to date are on the SNES. Super Mario World 1&2, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the Megaman X series, E.V.O. The Search for Eden, Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts, Yoshi's Safari, Super Scope 6, Gemfire, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy series, Earthbound, Earthworm Jim, Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. I could literally go on and on with a massive list of titles. Bottom line is, this console had the best game around and still does.
I purchased this original SNES for a number of reasons. First, I was using a later model on loan from a friend. I wanted my own and I wanted the original model. Second, was that it was not yellowed. Next, was the massive library of awesome titles that I wanted to experience again. Another point is a bit of nostalgia, but that was a minor reason. Finally, I wanted to enjoy games again. I have all the new consoles and handhelds, but they just don't offer the same experience games of the 16-bit era did. Sure they look gorgeous, but the quality and replay value of today's games are much lower than in the past. I can go watch an HD 3D film if I want eye popping visuals.
I bought the SNES because I wanted to feel what games are really about. If you want hours, no years, of fun then you too will purchase the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. You can't go wrong with it.

The sweet good old days of 16 bit glory. A lot of great memories of mine from the mid to late 90's and even beyond come from this extremely awesome console. With a HUGE selection of games and a wide variety within the whole selection along with the upgraded graphics from the original NES this console definitely does not dissapoint. This system will exceed your expectations and yes, it does stand up to the newer systems such as PS3, XBox360 and the Wii. Okay sure, the graphics aren't even close, but the 16 bit graphics is what give the games of that era their charm. That's been said before and I absolutely agree. I believe if you think otherwise, you're just so lost and out of touch. I mean c'mon, for that time the graphics were INCREDIBLE! That gameplay is amazing though. Games that I'm extremely fond of from this retro 16 bit gold mine are as follows: Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Star Fox, Super Castlevania IV, Super R-Type, Super Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. These are just a few of the games that made a big impact on me from this console. I'd have to say Super Metroid is perhaps the #1 game for the SNES. Just flat out how big the game is, how challenging it is, and the mood is great. Probably creates the best atmosphere of any game you could possibly mention. It's kind of a creepy/haunting feel to the game, despite not being a horror game per say. This is acheieved with the environments created that are displayed to you through the 16 bit graphics, and the music. The music is key in this game. It's so great... I know this is an SNES review, but I just had to mention Super Metroid. The SNES also featured the Super Scope 6 which although didn't do very well commercially, I found to be pretty awesome. The reason I actually bought this official SNES is because I had a Retron3 (NES, SNES, Genesis combo system) and purchased a few zapper games for the NES and the Super Scope for the SNES, including Super Scope 6 to play with the Retron3. Unfortuantely the clone system doesn't register those controllers. Had to divert back to my old glass tube tv as well. Still looks pretty good on it still. Basically for me and anyone else that grew up with the SNES, it holds a little bit more importnace and relevance to those who have not. Every time I think of the old days and the memories tied to this amazing system I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside. You might find that statement going a little bit over the top, but I'm not going to lie, it's straight emotional attachement. BUT, if you haven't ever played the SNES (and I highly recommend the titles I've mentioned above) then you are in for a treat. You really do owe it to yourself, especially if you consider yourself a gamer. Actually no, sorry, you're no a gamer unless you've played the SNES (that goes for the NES too). If you aren't blown away by this system, I seriously have to question your opinon about any video game system and any relevance you think your opinion has. Sorry, I absolutely will not budge, it's simply not up for discussion. Yeah, the SNES is just FANTASTIC! I urge you to give it a try! You won't be dissapointed!

This system is old school. I bought it for my grand children. The ratings I'm providing are not to be compared with todays graphics and hd quality. I am rating it based on my 3 and 5 year old grand children using it. Its almost indestructable except for cables. It is easy to use. There are still alot of games available, and for what a used one cost vs. the amount of fun it provides for us with our grand children, the value for the money is excellent. Its also surprising how the older cousins want to play. It provides old fashion fun at a reasonable price.

Even with today's ever advanced gaming, the Super Nintendo stills compares well with it's features. It's holds so many originals that have become big in today's games, like Mario Kart, StarFox, Street Fighter, and Metroid! Whether you're new to video games, or an avid gamer, this is something that captivates all audiences!
