This is a great movie it is a lot better than the first Open Water. The first Open Water I believe was a little to boring not enough action but Open Water 2 Adrift your not going to get bored, and fall asleep on it is a a lot better has quite a bit more action to it. If you like movie based on true stories well then this one is for you. It is about a group of old high school friends that take a yacht out for a cruise, and then they all are far from land and jump out of the boat for a swim without lowering the ladder, and have no way of getting back on the boat now they all have to fight to survive, and another bad thing one couple have a baby aboard with no one aboard with it. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was how it ended I just didn't understand it but you will have to watch this movie to get your own opinion but because of the ending I give this move a 4.5 out of a 5 rating. But I still would buy before just renting it because I feel it is worth adding to a collection.

Open Water 2: Adrift (2007, DVD)
Amy, her husband James and their baby Sarah travel to Mexico to sail in the yacht of their reckless friend Dan with their common friends Zach and Lauren and celebrate the thirtieth birthday of Zach. They are introduced to Dan's girlfriend Michelle and they drink and recall moments of their past while navigating. Miles away from the shore, Michelle suggest to stop the yacht and swim in the calm water. Amy stays in the boat since she has a childhood trauma with ocean and Dan stays with her. Later, the irresponsible Dan pushes Amy overboard, falling with her in a prank. Once in the water, the group realizes that Dan forgot to put the embarkation ladder and the freeboard makes impossible to climb to the main deck the yacht. With the baby alone in the boat and stranded in the open sea, they panic and their desperation lead them to a tragic fight for survival.
This too is a good movie But it makes you wonder how they all...can be so carless..enjoyed it.....

I'm not sure if this is better or worse than the original. I guess I'll settle with "different enough"
A group of friends hit the seas on a yacht, but since they are almost all idiots, they end up in the water without putting the ladder down first, thus they can't get back on the boat. This movie is so infuriating in places, I mean the people who are in the sea are obviously brain dead as they can't figure out ONE reasonable way to get back into the boat. They can leap from the water and reach half way up the side, but that is it. They couldn't... oh, I don't know, make a human pyramid of sorts to help boost somebody into the boat? (and that was just the first idea I thought of two minutes after they were stranded, there are many, many more.)
Seriously, the people in this film are so whiny and annoying that you literally want to punch some of them in the face to shut them up. It's a testament to the director of the film that by near the end, he actually makes a couple of these morons sympathetic. Of course being stranded in the water is not enough, a few other disasters have to happen to them along the way (because, did I mention they are all IDIOTS!!!) geez, not only is one of them traumatized from a childhood experience that they are terrified of water, one of their "friends" thinks it would be a good idea to grab her and JUMP INTO THE SEA WITH HER (ARRRGGHHH!!!) and of course just to crank up the "drama" there is a poor defenseless baby left on board by itself as the adults try unsuccessfully to find a way back onto the boat.
With the original "Open Water" you felt a little bad for the main characters, as what happened was not their fault, in this one however, you kind of want the characters to die because they are so damned stupid. Worth watching for a good laugh if you like the suffering of others.
Did you see the first Open Water? Well, if so, did you think there would ever be a sequel? Yeah, me neither. Open Water 2 is a whole nother story, based on something true though. Even before watching it I kind of assumed how it would end, I figured they wouldn't make the movie exactly the same as the first. Although very similar, the sequel is in itself very different and once again very emotional. The character development is unique throughout the movie as you see them evolve.

Better Than the First!
Now this is one sequel that's actually better than the first movie! It's a whole new story, and all new people, but the same type of plot. However, it's much more exciting and more action, not so boring. There is just more going on, and that baby crying inside the boat ads some extra tension and realism.
I'd definitely recommend this one to a friend. If they hadn't come out with this great Sequel, I probably wouldn't still have the first OW in my collection!
