About the Manufacturer
Engineer and inventor Karsten Solheim got his start as an engineer working for GE in Ithaca, New York. His passion for the game set him on a journey to create a better putter. At the time he thought he was simply building it for his own personal use, but in 1959, Karsten’s ongoing garage experiments yielded an innovative putter he called 1A design. This putter had very distinctive design qualities, among them, a unique tone at impact, a sound that would echo throughout the game for generations to come…“Ping.” The Anser putter began a long and proud history of truly innovative equipment design throughout Ping’s entire product line (ultimately resulting in over 400 patents) that has set Ping at the top of the list of golf design and manufacturing companies. The company is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Karsten Solheim has passed away and his son John has taken the helm.

Ping iWedges

Created: 28/06/08
Ping iWedges were introduced in late 2006. They are cavity-back, cast clubs with a tuning port and come in even-numbered lofts from 48 - 60 degrees. They have square grooves and usually come with the popular CS-L lightweight steel shaft in Regular or Stiff flexes. (ZZ65 and AWT shafts are available for stronger players). Mine had Ping 703 grips.

Ping indicates that the design of the sole of the club is based on the very popular Eye2 from the late 1980's. This sole is slightly concave in the center which theoretically reduces drag on grass shots while retaining bounce for sand shots.

I play the 52, 56 and 60 in the summer and the 58 (replacing 56 and 60) in the winter. I have found them to be solid-performing, predictable clubs. The 52 is very effective for long bunker shots and the 60 is the best L wedge Ping has made since the ISI 61 of the late 1990s. I have found that they do indeed play much like the old Eye2 wedges in their feel at impact and in their results.

I recommend them highly.

PING IWEDGE 58DEGREES

Excellent wedge, its designed around the old ping eye 2 sand wedge (which I have set of) I used to use my old eye 2 sand wedge for every possible chip, this club works the same if not better. Full shots with it fly farther than my 58 degree cleveland cg10 and titliest vokey 58 degree. Excellent feel and balance of club, nothing to dislike yet about it, and I purchased it because of the PING brand name.

Ping iWedge (Gap Wedge) Golf Club

Created: 04/01/10
I bought the Ping iWedge Golf Club a few weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the condition of the used club. The "U" Wedge has filled a gap in my golf bag for the 100 yard range. The club fit-in nicely with my Ping Eye 2 set because, Ping did not make a gap wedge for those type of clubs.

Ping IWedge

Very easy to use in all lofts. A bit of a harsh feel as with all Ping clubs, but very effective. A lot of biunce in all lofts but the wedge is targeted at the mid handicapper who will tend to chunk it so the club slides in easily. Not much bite so play for the release and roll
