Oh well, at least someone did a remake
Ugh. Relies on the stars, leaves out the real characters.
Special effects galore, and they're pretty good. Great sounding audio. Nice use of camera and lighting, for sure. Great lineup of actors.
There the complements end.
If you were told to write an obvious plot twist to the original movie to fit today, as hokey and predictable as you can conceive of, what would you do?
And poor ones at that.
And... FRENCH ones???
Then you have to suspend reality and physics to believe in the method they use as well. Talk about elementary physics being completely ignored...good grief. Are people really this gullible? They try to make the movie as real and tense as possible, but it all swings on an impossibility that refutes the basic tenant that even grade school children know - that for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. Not for these special French terrorists who seem to have no religious or personal reason for any animosity at all anyway.
The twisting of the character names/situations is interesting, such as using Rogo as the 'sea marshal' character hunting the terrorists instead of a vacationing cop. Yeah, formulas used from credits to credits.
If you've never seen the original, I'd guess this would be a good movie. If you can look past the obvious problems and obvious upcoming 'twists' to enjoy them. I couldn't.
The actors tried, they really did, and even did a good job more often than not, but they couldn't polish what won't shine.
NOT: The Original Poseidon Adventure, from the 1970's
I thought this was going to be the Original classic Poseidon Adventure from the 1970's. It's not! I watched it once, now it sits in my storage unit waiting for the day when someone I know buys a Blu Ray player but has nothing to play or test it with. Then I'll offer this worthless version of the Poseidon Adventure.
