Pride & Prejudice

Excellent adaptation of the Jane Austen novel--a bit different from the A&E version but the story still shines through. Keira Knightly is probably closer to Lizzie's true age & does a great job with the complexities of her character. Matthew Macfadyen is not the most handsome Darcy but has wonderful sex appeal & fabulous eyes! I did take offense to the modernization of the dialog at times but the overall production is striking.

Mrs. Bennet raises her five daughters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia with the purpose of getting married with a rich husband that can support the family. They find out that their house in Hartfordshire will be inherited by a distant cousin if Mr. Bennet dies. When the wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley and his best friend Mr. Darcy arrive in town to spend the summer in a mansion nearby their property, the shy and beautiful Jane falls in love for Mr. Bingley, and Lizzie finds Mr. Darcy a snobbish and proud man, and she swears to loathe him forever. This is the beginning of their wonderful love story.

I absolutely adore this movie! True, it does deviate a bit from the original, and it does leave out a good deal, HOWEVER, I appreciate that. I can't always sit down and watch a 5 hour movie. This movie does a great job fitting the important parts of the story into a 2 hour frame. You still get a feel for the Bennett family, especially Lizzie and Mr. Bennett--who I LOVE in this movie. And Matthew MacFayden is a wonderful Mr. Darcy. He's very handsome in a different sort of way, which I find refreshing. And you won't find a better love scene than the morning mist scene toward the end. I watch this movie at least once a month.

A Romantic Saga that Captures Your Attention

Ever watch a movie and do something else at the same time -like ironing, pay bills, in-and-out-of-the-room and feel like you didn't miss anything of the movie? Well, this movie keeps you in place! It will keep your attention as the story unfolds.
My daughter rented this movie and after seeing it once, we started searching on Ebay so we could add this to our DVD collection. Don't you hate paying high prices for movies, when Ebay can supply a host of sellers with movies at affordable prices?
"Pride and Prejudice" is much like "Sense and Sensibility" or "The Inheritance" - set in similar time periods. It is a romance that goes through many ups-and-downs. Some of the characters you fall in love with, others you can't stand...but that's why it's called acting.
For teenage girls who like romantic movies - you will like this! Rent it first to see - and you shall agree! Then, head to Ebay!!!!!!!

One of the best love stories of all time. Mr. Darcy played by Matthew MacFayden is excellent in the role. He is tall, dark and extremely handsome. He vies for the love of Elizabeth(Lizzie)Bennet, who at first disdains him, then grows to love him. The chemistry between the two characters is electrifying. I love towards the end when Mr. Darcy comes strutting across the meadow at dawn to claim his true love. Breathtaking! Definitely worth watching!
