Movie synopsis

Daniel Craig orders another martini shaken, not stirred, with this sequel to 2006's reboot of the James Bond franchise, CASINO ROYALE. Marc Forster (THE KITE RUNNER) directs new arrivals to the series Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric, and Gemma Arterton, as well as franchise favorites Judi Dench and Jeffrey Wright., Daniel Craig orders another martini shaken, not stirred, with this sequel to 2006's reboot of the James Bond franchise, CASINO ROYALE. Marc Forster (THE KITE RUNNER) directs., Daniel Craig returns as 007 in this electrifying follow-up to the critically acclaimed CASINO ROYALE. The film opens with two gripping, back-to-back chases, as James Bond (Daniel Craig) tries to heed the orders of M (Judi Dench) and, at the same time, track down the people who blackmailed his love, Vesper. Bond is still struggling with Vesper's death, displaying a new, ferocious violence in his work, and a recklessness that M would very much like to get under control. When Bond discovers a massive, secret organization called Quantum, he believes it might have been a part of the scheme that killed Vesper. He follows the clues to Haiti, where he meets Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a mysterious, driven woman, whose motives seem unclear. Camille leads Bond to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Almalric), a cold-blooded businessman who appears to be working within Quantum. Greene wants control of a valuable piece of land in Latin America, and is part of a massive plan to overthrow the government. Bond knifes, shoots, and kick-boxes his way to the center of the sinister scheme, and discovers that the plot reaches even higher than he imagined, forcing him to abandon M's orders and step out on his own. Director Marc Forster (STRANGER THAN FICTION) has crafted some truly memorable fight scenes, setting them in the most elegant of locales. Everything is beautifully shot, from Bond racing across the rooftops of Italy, to his showdown at an Austrian opera house. As for Craig, he is once again all cold precision and steely blue eyes. His 007 is positively riveting. He struts determinedly into every scene, ready to display his near superhuman fight moves, or bed a bombshell with merely a glance. Yet, just as in CASINO ROYALE, Craig never lets us forget Bond's humanity. He may fight like a ninja and smirk like Steve McQueen, but beneath his impeccable Tom Ford wardrobe, Bond is still but an ordinary man, wearily battling his own inner demons.

Editorial reviews

"In QUANTUM OF SOLACE, the stunts are as muscular and the film as handsome to look at as the hero who so ably pulls them off."
USA Today - Claudia Puig (11/14/2008)

"What about the villain? One of the best in a while...thanks to a lizardy turn from the great French actor Mathieu Amalric....The supporting cast is studded with equally excellent performers, including Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Giannini..."
New York Times - A. O. Scott (11/14/2008)

3 stars out of 5 -- "Here, Bond is sharper, more angular, a tumbling knife of ire and intent. All the same gristle and bristle, but now glinting with inner steel."
Total Film - Andy Lowe (11/01/2008)

4 stars out of 5 -- "We get striking locations and absolutely gorgeous, stylised art direction....Daniel Craig continues to be his own man as Bond..."
Empire - Kim Newman (12/01/2008)

"QUANTUM OF SOLACE is the finest installment in the storied franchise's 22-film history....Director Marc Forster has crafted a stylish 007 adventure that's both brutal and light on its feet."
Premiere - Premiere Staff (11/14/2008)

"The meanest and leanest James Bond film yet, QUANTUM OF SOLACE is a breathless splash of high-speed action that hurtles from one reckless chase to another."
Hollywood Reporter - Hollywood Reporter Staff (10/24/2008)

Quantum of Solace

Created: 29/03/09
This is the first Bond movie that could, reasonably, be called a sequel. As such, it is an excellent piece of work. Daniel Craig is the best 007 since Sean Connery (maybe better?). In Quantum of Solace, he takes up where he left off, battling over-whelming odds, moving from point A to point B, doing the job, trying not to let emotions (or his surperiors) get in the way.

Like Casino Royal, the action is pretty much non-stop, with a pause here and there for the audience to catch it's collective breath. The Bond women are always beautiful; no exception here. The villans are smart enough to make good adversaries, and slimey enough that you won't care what happens to them in the end. And all the loose ends are tied up nicely.

Casino Royal is (in my opinion) the best Bod film made. Quantum of Solace is a close second. It will be hard to keep up this pace, physically for the 41 year old Craig, and quality-wise for the writers. Perhaps that is why the next installment isn't due out until November 2011.

The filming was spectacular, but the editing was especially notable. Seamless. Rated PG-13, the body count was what you'd expect from a Bond film, but the violence wasn't in-your-face... and it wasn't gratuitus.

The Bond team will be hard pressed to come up with anything as good or better than the latest two Bond films; I will be hard pressed to wait 20 months to see it.

Bond was made for Blu-ray!

Created: 17/05/09
There's no need to discuss how crystal clear Blue-ray is, if you don't know that by now, visit a local Best Buy or electronic shop and get a preview. Quantum of Solace is Craig's follow up to Casino Royale. Again, this movie is action packed from the first scene to the last. Blue-ray enhances the experience, just making you glued to your TV screen for the whole 120-minutes, simply staring at the water in the background or the pebbles on the floor. If you have surround sound it makes the experience breathe taking and exciting.

I would say the movie was good, but not great like the first one (Casino Royale). Everyone will have their opinions, but frankly a lot was missing for me to give it a 'great' or rather 'excellent' status. Nonetheless, for me it's still the second best bond in the last several -- more action, less unrealistic gadgets and more real like gadgets, more plot, and more excitement throughout the movie. Not too sure about the Bond girl for this one... Anyway, you may want to shell out the extra money to get it in Blue-ray (provided you have the player & Hi-def TV) because being a Sony Pictures Film, Bond was made for Blu-ray!

Bond, not suave yet but like batman is getting revamped

Created: 06/02/10
When I saw Casino Royale I simply believed that just like Goldeneye they would ruin a good movie by horrible and whimsical sequels with a new bond. Daniel Craig is by far the 2nd best bond; only surpassed by the original Sean Connery. But, just like batman got its revamp and traced back to its origins to help us forget Tim Burton's Batmans, The Bond series has taken us back to the beginning before the suave nature and expertise has set in and has let us see a fiesty, determined and 'loose canon' sort of version of Bond that we can watch develope. The second part of this new Bond series 'Quantum of Solace'...despite its far reaching name that reminds me of some old Imax film title, is an impressive movie with an amazing and reasonable story with great action, great cinematography, and all the while the movie still holds true to the original Bond that made the series so iconic around the world. For any Bond fan or simply someone just wanting to see a good movie that isnt boring watch this movie or buy it for not too much more.

Quantum of Solace

This review is about the Blu-Ray...
FEATURES- are Average your basic DVD Features you get, are the same for Blu-Ray

VISUAL- The picture is amazing, ofcourse when played on the right TV and Bose system. Even the special effects are great, they dont look fake, and are really clear. For example, when I first got Spiderman 3, and watched it Blu-Ray all the special effects and fight scenes looked horrible, due to Blu-Ray being a HD movie...

Movie it self is awesome, I Love it, and you must watch Casino Royale before Quantum of Solace... I love how were they are going with this James Bond movies and Daniel Craig is one of the top 3 best Bonds.

Quantum of Solace - Two Guns Up!

Created: 05/03/10
Excellent film! Daniel Craig is my favorite James Bond (besides Sean Connery of course). This film is action packed from the opening scene to the very end. In this film Bond has lossed his cool and struggles to keep his edge as an MI6 agent.
From intense car chases to fantastic fight scenes, this movie is a must to own (especially on Blu Ray). This film has intersted me in the future of Bond films with Daniel Craig.
