He had paid attention to the business sides of things, too, and he signed with RCA because he was allowed to keep control of his song publishing. His RCA albums, eight of them, were mixed affairs for the most part, often full of covers, but Cooke was never less than charismatic when he sang, and his last two albums, the blues-inflected Night Beat and the dynamic One Night Stand! Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club, both of which were released in 1963, are classics by any definition. This box set collects all of Cooke's RCA LPs, and if some of them seem random, it's always Sam Cooke, which means all of them are worth having. Here's an easy way to do that. ~ Steve Leggett

Finally, the Sam Cooke-RCA releases in a box set!!

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Created: 19/01/12
I am so glad that SONY/BMG finally put out this collection. So many Sam Cook reissues are greatest hits collections and knock offs from independent labels with lousy sound quality.

Along with the stellar reissues from ABKCO, this collection is excellent. The albums contained are, COOKE'S TOUR, HITS OF THE 50'S, SWING LOW(also known as SAM COOKE); MY KIND OF BLUES, TWISTIN' THE NIGHT AWAY, MR. SOUL, NIGHT BEAT, and ONE NIGHT STAND! LIVE AT THE HARLEM SQUARE CLUB.

This box set has lp style covers with each of the eight discs, but no inner sleeves for those discs. Original RCA Victor logos, the dog & horn, and album numbers are reproduced on the covers.

Also included is a 23 page booklet with a short essay, recording date info, musicians, chart information (where applicable), and several photos.

Now the RCA album AIN'T THAT GOOD NEWS is not included here, but as of this writing the CD reissue is available from ABKCO and it sounds excellent if you have not heard it.

All albums are in true STEREO, except the live album which is in MONO but sounds great regardless.

I hope RCA does this more often with some of their other artists. I think they did a really nice job here. And it's been a long time coming!

Now how about doing this for his KEEN records recordings.
