I have been shooting with the Ricoh XR-P since the 1st year of production. I own four systems with PK mount Rikenon lenses. My original XR-P is still in excellent working condition--after over 32 years! Despite its electronics and metering system (quite advanced in the early 80's)it is simpler to use and better than any film SLR I know of, it is also rugged. I am hard on equipment. I take shots in rough places. This Camera out performs anything else (including Nikon) that I have ever shot. It is way undervalued. A well-maintained working system with various Rikenon lenses should be bringing $300 or more--IMO. The original reviews of its optics gave it high marks--only slightly less than anything else at any cost. That it was ahead of its time is a fact. I could still confidently use it commercially and have. With the available wider snap-on grip it is even better...fabulous!

All thru the 70's till the late 80's, I did film photography, my main camera was a Chinon-CS, but used the various Ricoh cameras as backups. I was never let down by the Ricoh, nothing fancy on them by today's standards but I would still put it up against anything except the really high end stuff available today. If your serious about your photography, (real photography, not photoshop stuff) Then this is for you.
I use only transparency film (reversal, slide) and process it myself. Couldn't be happier with my choice of camera to get back to something I love to do.
