more than just the movie

My daughter's favorite princess is Sleeping Beauty. I had never seen the movie, and we decided to purchase it for her. It is well done as one would expect from classic Disney, complete with beautiful music to encourage little ears to have appreciation for many genres of music. This particular disc set includes the restored film plus wonderful extras including music from the composer Tchaikovsky and a story about his life, and much more. The disc set has much to offer the little Disney princess lover, and even the boys should love the scary parts of the film. (a little scary for very small children) My only dislike was the music video after the film of the goofy remake of "Once Upon a Dream" that didn't fit the quality of the song. Overall, a great purchase!

Good But Not Great

As the first 3 princess movies goes, I feel this is the weakest. We all know that Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty are the same story each set apart by something unique to that particular movie. Sleeping Beauty was the first to be in 16:9 ratio and then there is Malificent, who really saves the movie. Outside of the beautifully painted and textured backgrounds, most of the rest of animation is flat and uninteresting pretty much reflecting the development of the main characters outside of the villainess, who by design, voice characterization, and depth is what keeps my children and I coming back to this classic. Okay, I also like the three fairy godmothers, especially when I look at them as prototype Power Puff Girls. Disney, at the time, years ahead of the curve.

Sleeping Beauty is more beautiful by OneTrueTroy

I liked cartoons as a child whether they were long, short, funny, scary, in color or in black and white. I especially loved the ones from Walt Disney and as an adult I've grown to appreciate them in other ways. Sleeping Beauty was one of my favorites among Bambi, Pinocchio, 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Sleeping Beauty has lost none of the magic that it did when I was very young. I don't explode with emotion and excitement very often, but I caught myself on the edge of my seat during some of the scenes.
I am still amazed how Walt Disney Studios has restored the movie. The color is brilliant, scratches, blemishes and flaws are gone and the soundtrack is enhanced in 5.1 surround sound.
The bonus features are numerous and some appeal to a younger crowd while the documentaries about the film will interest a more mature audience.
The 50th Anniversary 2-Disc Platinum Edition is now a wonderful part of my library and if you are a fan of Walt Disney animated features then by all means get a copy.

Disney Classic At It's Best

All six of Disney's classic Princess Fairy-tales are equally beautiful. So if you've ever watched, Aladdin, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, or Beauty and the Beast - and loved it - Sleeping Beauty is for you.
The tale starts with our Princess Aurora's birth. Where three guardian fairies start to bestow gifts upon the babe. Though, the celebration is interrupted when an evil Witch, Maleficent, decides instead to cast a forboding spell.
Needless to say, the story plays out where Prince has to save Princess with the stereotypical, but always heartwarming, true love's kiss.
Being one of the older cartoons, it's obviously got a lot more heart than all of Disney's shoddy straight-to-video flicks. It's beautifully re-mastered on DVD and there are certain parts that always get you if you're a sap for cheesy romance.
Definitely one you'd want in your collection for little ones... or for little Princesses at heart. :)
