Sony Handycam DCR - SR47
Created: 03/12/09
I purchased the DCR-SR47 by Sony because it was a Sony and I love the camera. I bought it with the thought that it had night shot and was disappointed to find that it does not. The camera is small and easy to carry around I put it in my jacket pocket when not in use which is great for allowing me to use my hands while on vacation, there is nothing more annoying than a bulky camera strapped to you all day. It comes on when you open the view window on the side and it fires up fast. I specifically like the fact that it holds 45 hours of video in the internal hard drive. I love the MPG format because it plugs into the computer and BAM there is the video. I have read reviews about the low picture quality, but have had great luck with mine. The picture quality is great, not choppy or blurry. Lets face it we are making movies of our loved ones not box office hits. The zoom is out of this world. I feel it is important to mention that you can charge the battery while you use the camera this is not a plug a box in and put the battery in it like some of the competition to Sony. You plug in to the back and the battery charges on the camera. The negatives: no night shot, factory battery only last about an hour, no automatic lens cover. The positives: small, easy use, numerous formats, large hard drive, good picture quality, easy use, extra slot for more memory although I don’t know why you would need it with the 60 GIG on board hard drive. I love the camera and would recommend it for any one for home use, if you want Hollywood quality I would suggest you pay 10 grand for your next camera not 2-3 hundred. My friend has the JVC model and he wants one like mine DCR-SR47. I love it. PS the program that comes with it is OK. it is free with the camera and for the price I think its a good deal. Camera and Sofware.

Excellant camcorder though not perfect

Very high Optical Zoom, plus high receording capacity on a hard drive plus it is very compact, light weight and easy to use. Does not have a jack for an external mic or headphones. Other small drawback is the basic battery that comes with the camera does not have much recording time but there are many reasonably priced batteries that will triple the recording time. The lcd screen is a touch screen for settings and operation. Very nice. Unless you have professional needs, this is a great camera for the money and very easy to use.

Awesome Sondy Camcorder!

I recently decided to purchase this Sony Handycam DCR-SR47 because I wanted a camcorder to use on vacations. Last week, I took this camcorder up to our hunt camp in South Carolina to really test it out. Let me tell you, the zoom on this thing is amazing! However, it is hard to keep the shot steady because of how far it zooms in but all you need is a tripod. That's next on the list. With 60GB of internal memory, I could probably record for this entire year before I need to put it on my laptop. I give this camcorder an A+ for the price! I will be using it at my wedding later this year also.

I love this camera. The fact that is light and portable makes it convenient to carry around. It is also easy to use. The 60X zoom feature is neat as well. I recently purchased a wade angle and telephoto lens to go with it. I have been filming my son's athletic events and those lens have enhanced the videos. The Sony software that comes with the camera allows for easy conversion to DVD's and offers basic editing features.

the little camera that could

Great little camera. The movies it takes are as good as any dv camera I have ever used. Easy to use, easy to understnad with not a lot of extra stuff that might be confusing for a first time user. The point and click of the camcorder world. If you are a beginner it is a great little camera that takes wonderful movies and hassle free.
2 problems for me. The picture mode is not as robust as I would like. (2) It does not have the steadying deal (I forgot what it's called) so when you zoom out it wobbles a lot. So inorder to get steady shots, you have to use a tripod to keep the camera steady even at a modest zoom.
