Product Information
Spider-Man returns to PlayStation 2 in a game based on the July 2004 feature film starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Using a revamped 3D engine that offers an interconnected world instead of standalone levels, players swing past skyscrapers high above New York City streets as they respond to residents in need. Meanwhile, Doctor Octopus plans on taking over the city with a combination of deadly force and criminal ingenuity. Those familiar with 2002's Spider-Man on PlayStation 2 will notice a number of changes to the interface, gameplay, and look designed to improve upon some of the earlier title's shortcomings.

Instead of swinging along a horizontal plane while outdoors, attaching the webbing to an invisible ceiling, players will be able to fire webs at all angles but only on visible surfaces. To help secure webbing to objects, an onscreen cursor will target potential surfaces and indicate where the next available surface is so players know where to swing to. The camera has also been addressed, with a perspective that remains close to Spider-Man's back instead of constantly swinging around with each new movement. Furthermore, the compass used in the first game has been replaced with a transparent map of the city, allowing players to freely plan out their route instead of blindly following arrows pointing them to their next destination.

Mission structure has changed to a more free-roaming style of play. In a nod toward Grand Theft Auto III, Spider-Man can undertake missions to further the storyline as well as respond to citizens on the street needing the Web-Head's help. Completing these optional tasks earns players Hero Points, which can increase their character's attributes and unlock other rewards. All missions take place in a 3D version of Manhattan roughly four square miles in size. Players can leap off buildings, twirl around flagpoles, run up walls, ensnare multiple foes at once, and explore every inch of the city without being restricted or redirected. While on the street, Spidey can dodge oncoming traffic, purchase items in stores, converse with the local populace, and hunt down enemies using Spider-Sense.

    JUST PLAIN FUN!

Best spiderman game ever made so far
I don't know have many houers I have played this game, but it's quite much!

The good: Very fun to yust swing around in the big city, dive from buildnings and that stuff. That is for me the funiest in the game. There are also enough missions to to.

The bad: Well you can't swing around forever and stll have fun all the time, and its not a kind of deep game if you only like missions, its like GTA in spiderman version.

There are many changes from spiderman 1 game, and if you liked that, are you going to love number 2! The playstation 2 version and xbox is the best, I woulden't recommend to buy it on PC, it's like a diffrent game there.

Very good, a game could ofcourse almost get better, but this is really entertainment to play! Have fun!

    Fun Game!

    Created: 09/01/07
I bought this game for my four year old son and I to play together. I love video games (tomb raider is my favorite) and he has followed my footsteps. The tutorial is great. It's a learn as you go. It get incrementally more difficult. Swinging takes getting used to. My son choses to run because he's always swinging into the buildings. That being said, we are talking about a four year old. I still have some trouble with the swinging too but can correct easy enough. I think it will just take getting more used to the controls. The map is easy enough for my four year old to follow. There are a ton of fighting moves to master even though you don't really have to master them...you can get through alot of enemies by just pressing alot of button combos and not knowing what you're doing (thus my four year old son.) It's as difficult or easy a game as you want it to be. Save a ton of people or only the minimum. It's up to you. This is a very versatile and entertaining game.

    Pretty good game!!!

Please don't forget to rate this when you are done.

This game is great. Spider-man of course is my fav. superhero and this game is exactly how it sounds. The moves that spidy does in this game is off the hook...you can swing people into the air and kick them into walls and use your spidy senses. The graphics are okay and the replay rating for this i would say are pretty good. It takes a little while to figure out the swinging for building to building. But all in all this game is a great addition to the PS2 family. It would be great for kids around 13 if you don't mind the violence in it...but if they watch the cartoon then what can you do right? The story line in this game seems a little never ending as you race to see Mary Jane about a quadrillion times. Out of 10 I'd give this game a 7 or 8.

    PS2 Spider-Man 2 REVIEW

    Created: 06/01/07
I purchased this PS2 game for my oldest son. I feel actions games are the most fun to play and this certainly has that! Also, I like the fact that the game characters are based on comic book characters and not on real life people or situations. I like to purchase games that are rated "T" or less and that are fantasty... NOT true to life.
I was thrilled that it was new and sealed in the package and the price was great! The free shipping was icing on a delicious cake!

One of the few good games based off movies

     | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The home console game was generally well received. Critics noted that the realistic and life-sized Manhattan, the large variety of crimes and emergencies to stop, and the game's vivid use of Spider-Man's abilities all combined to make the player really feel like Spider-Man. The most popular aspect of the game was the web-swinging mechanic, where Spider-Man had to shoot webbing at an actual building, unlike previous games where he shot webbing up into the sky. However, small parts of the game were criticized, such as the repetition of some of the side missions. However, IGN gave the game a review of 8.8 out of 10 for the PlayStation 2
