Spider-Man (DVD, 2002, 2-Disc Set, Special Edition Full Frame)

Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst|Theatrical release: 2002 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Based on the classic Marvel Comics series, Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN deftly details the origin of the web-slinging superhero. When awkward New York City teenager Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) attends a class field trip to a laboratory, he gets bitten by a genetically altered spider while taking photos of his longtime crush, the lovely Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). Soon he discovers this bite has given him remarkable powers--heightened strength, dexterity, and awareness, along with the ability to cling to walls and shoot webs from his wrists. Hoping to win Mary Jane's heart using his new talents, Peter becomes distracted from home life with his doting Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) and Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson), ultimately leading to tragedy--and his new role as the crime-fighting Spider-Man. Meanwhile Harry Osborn (Willem Dafoe), the industrialist father of Peter's friend Norman (James Franco), undergoes a transformation of his own, bringing about the creation of Spider-Man's arch-nemesis: The Green Goblin. In order to save his loved ones--and all of New York City--from the devastating force of the deluded Goblin, Spider-Man must take on the villain in a series of stunning battles.By staying true to the essence of the comic book, Raimi accomplishes the rare feat of crafting a superhero movie with a real heart. Rather than focusing solely on action and explosions, SPIDER-MAN wisely shines the spotlight on the character of Peter Parker, played with perfect bewilderment by Maguire. The special effects, of course, are dazzling, but they are topped by an excellent cast that also includes the radiant Dunst, the menacing Dafoe, the brooding Franco, and the scene-stealing J.K. Simmons as Peter's tough-talking boss. (Raimi fans will notice cameos by the director's brother, Ted Raimi, and EVIL DEAD series star Bruce Campbell.) The result is a charming and amazingly entertaining film unafraid to combine CGI animation with sincere human emotion.

Spider-man (2001) Tobey Mcguire, Kirsten Dunst,....

Created: 02/11/08
Sam Raimi made blockbuster history in the early 21st century with the release of Spiderman! The franchise was ready, the fans were ready. That is not to mention the state of the art CGI technology at the time was ready to send Spiderman flying through the streets of New York. The script was already there with the characters, it was only a matter of casting. Peter Parker, (Tobey Mcguire) is a high school senior who has had a rather huge crush on his next door neighbor, Mary Jane Watson,(Kirsten Dunst). Sparks begin to fly as the two interact throughout the movie. Meanwhile trouble is brewing with Parker's best friend's,(James Franco) dad,(Willem Dafoe) with Globotech, which in time brings the most beloved Spiderman villain out of the man - the Green Golbin! Three thumbs up for Spiderman!

Great Hero Story!

Created: 17/07/06
Spider-Man is a great action packed movie with a hint of romance. Tobey Maguire stars as Peter Parker A.K.A Spider-Man with Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. This movie shows the beginning of how Spider-Man came to be. Also how he is trying to figure out how he fits into the world now as not only a super hero but just as a "normal" teenager. He also deals with his first major villain, The Green Goblin. Great fun watching Spider-Man testing his new "powers" and the action/special effects are great in this movie! I think it is a must see movie.

Tobey Maguire Makes Spider-Man Movie Worth Watching!

Created: 22/04/07
TOBEY MAGUIRE... as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man... Was Cover Featured In this Past Sunday's Parade Magazine!

Tobey is very well known and respected world-wide now since portraying the Amazing Spider-Man in what will soon be three released movies.

He was born in 1975 and got his start as a teen in television commercials.

Tobey had small parts in several movies with his friend Leonardo DiCaprio, but came to national attention with his role in 'the Ice Storm' directed by Ang Lee.

That led him to be cast in 'Pleasantville', which is where I first noticed him.

When he was first mentioned as being cast as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man in 2001, I knew that he was right for the part!!

He definitely filled out both the roles and is one my favorite comic book character actors.

This first movie in Spider-Man trilogy is what I have been looking forward to for years. I believe this is the BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER!!

I was hoping to say that for the Fantastic Four movie, as they are my favorite comic book series of all time, but this Spidey movie has it all !! I can watch it over and over and still have that rush of when I first saw it in the theater!!

A "Must see" Movie!

Created: 20/10/06
Everyone, young and old alike, knows, in some way or
another, our friendly neighborhood Spiderman. So it is
not surprising that when this comic book super hero
was made into a movie, almost everyone was there to
watch it. As there were a lot of reservations as to
how the movie would come out, everyone was surprised
on how it stays faithful to the feel of our web
swinger’s world even if it doesn’t really follow the
story of “The Amazing Spiderman” comic book. The
actors and actresses did great in bringing life and
drama to the story. Toby Maguire did a great job in
giving us the wonder and pains of discovering Peter
Parker’s powers. Although quite distinguishable, the
CG and graphics are awesome. One thing that makes
the movie stand out is the humor and the pacing.
Following Peter Parker transform from a geek to
Spiderman was a great fun. Overall, Spiderman is a
great installation for a series of Spiderman movies
that would be one of the milestones of Marvel movies.
It’s definitely a movie to watch.
