I bought it. The best by the best to portray St.Francis
Created: 04/10/06
A great director and writers who portray St Francis as a real man who just wanted to follow Christ. If a real man can achieve genuine goodness then so can I. I'm so glad I bought it. The more I watch, the more I get from the movie. Great actors (Italian) and an experienced director. My only complaint it wasn't long enough...need a mini-series. Seems to have borrowed a lot from 'Flowers of St Francis'.

As the previous reviewer said, this movie is in Italian; however, it does have English subtitles and, unlike some movies, the subtitles are perfectly timed with the speech, and are grammatically correct.
I have viewed several movies on Saint Francis (Little Flowers, Francesco, Brother Sun Sister Moon, etc.); this version of the life of the saint is by far my favorite!
Though not historically fully accurate (Clare is portrayed as being the same age as Francis, though she was actually much younger), this is a well-made and well-balanced devotional rendering of the saint's life.
Neither overly-sweet (Brother Sun, Sister Moon) or offensively crude (Francesco), this movie is well acted, and has a very authentic feel due to the marvelous period sets and costuming.
It is quite a long movie, but very entertaining, enjoyable, and moving (the ending brought tears to my eyes)!
In my opinion, I would call this movie a "must see" for anyone interested in the life of Saint Francis - highly recommended!
