Step Brothers (DVD, 2008, Unrated Single Disc Version)

Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly|Theatrical release: 2008 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

Step Brothers Unrated on DVD is a comedy film featuring the humorous duo of Will Ferrell and John C. Rielly. The story of the movie centers around the cohabitation of two 40-year-old men who still live in their parent's home. When each man's parent finds love, the two men must live together in peace. Sharing a room, however, proves to be too much for the both of them. The Step Brothers Unrated DVD is a comedy that concentrates its humor on the relationship between the two step brothers and their journey to maturity. As the movie progresses, viewers witness conflict and resolution between the two main characters through the use of music. This unrated version of the film allows watchers to take in even more hilarity that comes from the unbridled humor of the popular comedy duo. Although the humor is considered stupid and outlandish to some, fans of Will Ferrell and John C. Rielly will find this movie quite entertaining. Step Brothers Unrated is a comedic coming of age story for two middle-aged men who never grew up.

Editorial reviews

"Starting at infantile and regressing hysterically from there, STEP BROTHERS flies on the comic chemistry of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly."
Rolling Stone - Peter Travers (08/07/2008)

3 stars out of 5 -- "Ferrell and Reilly are a superb double-act, Reilly's cockiness meshing well with Ferrell's puppy dog innocence."
Empire - Chris Hewitt (09/01/2008)

"STEP BROTHERS...is like the guys were just let loose to run around in brightly colored briefs and vintage tee-shirts....The ludicrous situations call for equally ludicrous behavior and statements..."
Premiere - Jenni Miller (07/24/2008)

The Most Ridiculous Film I've Seen In 20 Years.

Created: 23/08/09
Dale Doback (Reilly) and Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) are more than just deadbeat losers. They sponge off their parents and are way past failure to launch men-children. After a much needed change in there lives, the single parents of these two hit it off and soon find themselves starting off as a happily married couple with a grown son a piece.

As soon as they get together, the two start fighting and hating one another. They soon learn how much they have in common with one another. Their love for numb-chucks, girlie magazines, ninjas, COPS, John Stamos, and the comforts of years of no responsibility.

This wild run frenzy is never ending. I'll just say that I've never seen anything quite so silly in my life. The Unrated version is absolutely gross, yet fantastically creative. This would make a grown man cry to see such foolishness.

I would like to give this film a better than average score, but after much thought, I can't it any more than a 3/5 for mediocrity and stupidity. It's worth a late night watch at least once just to make you aware of how ridiculous the movie producers are getting to come up with something new and different for people to watch. I'm sure this will run forever and a day on HBO, Cinemax, or Showtime.

Not as good as it's made out to be-Unrated-very vulgar

Created: 01/06/09
I've never had a problem with an unrated version before until now. I don't reccomend the unrated version to anyone unless you truly don't mind hearing the f word every 2 mins and seeing/hearing a lot of sexual content. I was utterly shocked at all this version contained. I am not a prude by any means, but this version would make anyone blush. A small area on the back of this versions case states"not reccomended for those under 14 yrs of age". Trust me, it's not for anyone under adult age as you see ceratin body parts and scenes that aren't suitable for those under adult age.

Now on to the actual movie. (Brennan)Will and (Dale)John are two middle aged(39/40)yr olds still living at home with no jobs when Will's mom and John's father meet up at a conference and become involved with one another eventualy leading up to their marriage in which the two become step brothers. At first they resent each other and do everything imaginable to annoy one other. They eventualy become buddies after Will's younger and more successful brother comes to visit and wins over Johns dad. John ends up punching Will's younger brother in the face which is why the two to become friends. In the mean time Will's sister in law has the hots for John. After being forced to go to job interviews in which they did together in tuxedos and failed to land a job, they created their own singing group/music video. All of their childish antics lead their parents to divorce and them to hating each other again. They eventualy perform together in front of everyone and earn everyones respect which leads to them being friends again and their parents getting back together.

I reccomend renting before buying to see if you actualy like it or not as the reviews were funny, but misleading. It certainly isn't as good as it was made out to be by any means, but that's just my opinion.

Farrell's Best Movie Since Elf

Created: 09/02/09
I've been disappointed in most of Will Ferrell's movies, but not all. I absolutely loved Elf, Talladega Nights had its moments but was just alright, and I was really disappointed in Semi-Pro. This is a perfect movie for Will. Step Brothers teams him with John C. Reilly, who worked with him previously in Talladega Nights. Talladega had its ups and downs, but Step Brothers keeps you laughing throughout. Farrell and Reilly are at their adolescent best playing two forty year olds who still live at home with their single parent. When the parents hook up and get married, Farrell and Reilly are then step brothers.

They start out as rivals, but as the movie goes along, they end up liking each other. They realize they're just like one another, a Mama's boy and a Daddy's boy. There are laughs at every turn of this movie (unlike Semi-Pro), and I definitely recommend Step Brothers. It's hilarious.
