Synopsis
Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit, is a peaceful sort who lives in a cozy hole in the Shire, a place where adventures are uncommon - and rather unwanted. So when the wizard Gandalf whisks him away on a treasure-hunting expedition with a troop of rowdy dwarves, he's not entirely thrilled. Encountering ruthless trolls, beastly orcs, gigantic spiders, and hungry wolves, Bilbo discovers within himself astonishing strength and courage. And at the ultimate confrontation with the fearsome dragon Smaug, the hobbit will brave the dangers of the dark and dragon fire alone and unaided.

Fantastically Done!!!

Created: 20/04/11
Tolkien is by far and away probebly my most favorite of authors for his works of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I bought this as I have 5 sons, who for the most part are to young to read a book such as this one yet. They listened to a CD each night before going to sleep and woke up filled with memories to tell me and anticipation for the next CD. They loved the way that Rob Inglis read, and It took me a while to convince one of my sons that the Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf from the movie did not read thier parts in it. They liked it so well that they convinced me to buy The Lord of the Rings audiobook as well.

The Hobbit - unabridged reading

Created: 04/01/09
This is an unabridged reading of the Hobbit, by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is very well done, the actor does an exceptional job with voices, setting the mood etc. Very additive to listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to all Tolkien fans.

The only drawback I've found is the author's singing - in places in the text where a song's lyrics are given. It's somewhat tuneless and doesn't really add to the feeling of the work. It is probably not the actors fault, but an attempt by the producers to avoid sounding like previous recordings/movies etc.

Definitely recommended and easy to listen to. As addictive as reading the book.

The Only Version You Should Consider

Created: 17/10/08
This is the definitive version of Tolkien's classic. This is unabridged, so enjoy every nuance as the author intended. The reader,(Rob Inglis) is a master of Middle Earth. He inflects the Shire, the Elven tongue and all races with authority and grace as if he were born to their world.
