Urban Cowboy

I grew up in the 1970's-1980's, I was 10 when this movie came out, and thought wow, excellent movie! It had everything I was lookin' for in a movie, drama that goes with people who attend bars. Gilley's, the world's largest Honky-Tonk, located in Texas, was named after EPIC recording musician/actor/night club owner Mickey Gilley. Famous for his renditions of cover tunes packed with a few hits of his own. Mickey Gilley had a cameo appearance in the movie. To me it was more than a cameo it was more like 45 minutes. John Travolta, and Debra Winger are the main characters of Urban Cowboy. John Travolta (Bud Davis) and Debra Winger (Sissy) meet at Gilley's, and marry at Gilley's. Musician's Johnny Lee, Bonnie Raitt, and The Charlie Danials band make cameo's in the movie as well. So, saddle up and ride the bull, dance the Two-Step, and sip a cool one, and find yourself a good ole Urban Cowboy! The movie is rated PG for parental guidance. There is some mild language.

Urban Cowboy. The Essential Cowboy
Created: 10/09/06
Long time a favorite of movie watchers, Urban Cowboy is truly the classic modern western..the one by which all other modern westerns gauge their success. Not only is there the traditional "Cowboy" essentials of Black Stetson Cowboy hats and boots, there is romance, drama, suspense, comedy, traditional boot scootin' dance and the rough and rowdy honky tonk brawl. This movie is classic in all senses and an absolute must to add to your DVD library. Who doesn't remember Bud and Sissy? Starring the ever so handsome John Travolta as Bud and the stunning Debra Winger as Sissy and set in the back drop of Pasadena, Texas and showcasing the southern style music of Mickey Gilley and some down home boot stompin music from the Charlie Daniels Band. For a wild ride into the sunset - hang up your hat, kick your boots off and pick up this movie.

A John Travolta favorite. Classic modern cowboy

This movie made bull riding an icon in America and Gilly's a legend. The music and dancing are classic examples of the country western dancing that was and still is popular in this country.
Madolyn Smith and Debora Winger do a great job as women on opposite ends of the social scale who vie for the attention of that soleful, dimple-chinned Travolta and Scott Glenn is perfect in his role of the bad guy.
Debra Wingers performance on the bull is about as sensual as possible and goes in the movie hall of fame for suggestiveness.
This movie is fun and entertaining and worth the viewing

It will get you down to the knitty-gritty, and steal your heart.Debra Winger and John Travolta are amazing in this movie. I loved all the two-stepping and mechanical bull riding, and I love Bud & Sissy!

Great Movie!

This definitely fits in with the Classic Modern Day Cowboy Movies! It moves quickly and it's good to see both sides of the story, from the man's perspective and the woman's. Good story line and Dang, Travolta can dance! That man always has amazed me with the way he can move his feet! And Sissy is really a sweetheart, tough but still a lady! A must see, if only to see "Gillys' which is no longer around. :(
