Harmonized Wedge

Created: 22/04/09
The Wilson Harmonized Wedge has not been highly recommended by club pro's or any others who are considered to be "in the know" regarding golf clubs per se. That said, these wedges are excellent for the average golfer who is looking for a club that can be counted on for consistent feel and performance. Make no mistake, these are not "AAA" wedges however, they are quality clubs that will only help the average golfer to shave strokes off their game while supporting their evolution as a golfer. Overall, a solid, consistent, quality club that will help virtually any golfer to excel with shots all around the green!

Wilson Harmonized wedges have been eclipsed by modern models

I have steel, beryllium copper, and aluminum silicon Harmonized wedges. Wilson tends toward lower lofts and bounce angles, and the sand wedge fits this description - 55-deg loft and 10-degrees of bounce on a medium-width sole. In short, you have to be a "better" player to appreciate the Hamonized sand wedge. Or play in hard or coarse sand. The Harmonized wedges do not have the pleasing axis of rotation that the older Vokey, Cleveland, Ping, or original Gene Sarazen Wilson sand wedges possessed. Their non-rotation through the shot is more similar to today's Callaway wedges. If you want to "feel" your way through a delicate shot situation, get the former brands. If you want to "bludgeon" the ball, then buy the latter models. If you want to control the clubhead to hood or flop the ball, then you probably do not want the Harmonized wedge.
But I actually bought a 1955 Wilson Dual Wedge in this eBay sale. I was hoping to use it as both a pitching and sand wedge. The Dual Wedge had the old, pleasant "pinned" hosel that is long, thus moving weight toward the shaft and making a better axis of rotation. The club has a medium-wide sole with a small bounce. It is the width of the sole that increases the bounce as you fan it open for bunker shots. The sole is radiused heel-to-toe, and cambered leading-to-trailing edge of sole. The club is short by today's wedge standards, and swingweighted heavy. When I lenghtened it to today's 35.5 or 36" standard length, then the swingweight zoomed into the E range. I had to backweight the grip to bring it down to even D7. The club can be used to manufacture a hooded pitching wedge, or opened to produce an acceptable sand wedge. After both practice and play, I decided that even though weight is an issue to us that walk and carry our clubs, that I would rather carry both Pitching and Sand wedges than just this single 50-degree Wilson Dual Wedge.
Wilson is seeking to recapture their glory as a premier club manufacturer, and their new irons are making inroads. Perhaps their new wedges are good, too. But the Harmonized models, prevalent for at least a dozen years, are not as functional as the better wedges in the game now. You can purchase them in many outlets, including jillions on eBay, rather inexpensively. But you get what you pay for. I have been disappointed in the Harmonized series.

Solid wedges

Created: 10/09/08
I continue to be a big fan of Wilson's harmonized wedges. They are affordable, solid, and well built wedges that work for me. I have hit Cleveland (588) and Titleist (Vokey) wedges and would agree that they are probably a better wedge - but not as much as might be thought for most amateur players. For the price difference I honestly just don't see an equal performance difference. At the price these are selling for now I have been able to pick up spares for an extremely reasonable amount of money. I can hit 95 % of the same shots with the Wilson's and generate more than enough spin playing a comparable ball (the real key to me is the ball anyway) as I can with those other more expensive wedges. I have been meaning to hit the Solus 7.1 wedges but haven't gotten around to it yet, but I am not in a big hurry to replace my current wedges anyway.

60 degree wedge

Created: 07/03/08
The club was in good shape and was not used very much. I like it because is a steel shafted wedge. It makes the swing stiffer. The club was a real bargain and has a little use on the grip but that is to be expected. It is of better quality than alot of clubs because Wilson makes a good usable club.

Since I purchased a set of Wilson Pi5 irons, I needed a gap wedge to complement this set. The club was brand new and very reasonable.I couldn't have done any better than EBAY...JK
