The Adventures of Francis the Talking Mule - Vol. 1 (DVD, 2004)

I bought this DVD because I recently purchased my first mule and having grown up watching the Francis movies decided to see if these films could still be relevant today. Surprisingly I found the answer to be yes and can highly recommend a viewing or re-viewing of these wonderfully entertaining films. Starring Donald O'Connor as the mule's friend and confidant, Chill Wills brings the voice of Francis to life with his smooth southern drawl and sage advice.... advice that it would be wise to heed today by individuals and governments alike.

These films are so well written directed and acted as to belie their B movie origins. That and they are FUNNY! Many young actors turn up who went on to bigger and better things. A very talented man named Chill Wills does the voice for the mule, and they would be nowhere near as funny without him. If you, your children or your grandchildren have not seen these you are missing some of the funniest films to ever come out of Hollywood.

Bought this DVD because the wife and I like Donald O'connor and Chill Wills. Also probably because it is nostalgic. We are both in our 70's. It DID bring back memories.

I've made about 600 eBay purchases (90 this year alone) and put this as about average.

The slapstick of Donald O'Connor is second to none. I have always had a soft spot for Chill Wills and no other could ever have done Francis the way he did. The fact that you get four Francis movies on this DVD is great for back to back giggles and belly laughs.

These classic movies are always a lot of fun to watch. We older adults enjoy remembering the antics of Peter Stirling and Francis the mule, and the younger generation finds them just as entertaining. After the first adjustment of seeing movies in black and white again as opposed to color, I find you get past that fast and just enjoy the films.
