Movie synopsis

The boozing, smoking, cussing captain of a tramp steamer, Charlie Allnut, saves prim and proper Rose Sayer after her brother is killed by German soldiers at the beginning of World War I in Africa. Many quarrels later, the two set sail on the Ulonga-Bora in order to sabotage a German ship. Based on the 1935 novel by C.S. Forester, the wonderful combination of Hepburn and Bogie (who won an Oscar) makes this a thoroughly enjoyable blend of comedy and adventure. Later came the book (and Clint Eastwood film) White Hunter, Black Heart, which chronicled Peter Viertel's experiences observing Huston throughout the making of the picture.

One of the only romantic comedies i enjoyed.

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I'm not one for romantic comedies, which I think is what you would call this, but i really enjoyed this one. Bogart plays a "common" character, with Hepburn playing kind of a "upper-class" woman, so to speak. They get forced together to evade the Germans in World War 2, and end up falling in love, as romantic comedies go. Its considered a classic and definately worth watching, I think the only reason I rated it so high was because their relationship reminded me of my own, but still good movie.

classic Bogart

I like these old classic movies, and this one ranks right up there. Humphrey Bogart is hilarious in this movie. I also bought Casablaca and was pleased with that one also.

THE AFRICAN QUEEN

I am going to buy it again; gave mine away.

This is a movie the whole family can watch and it is so funny, the whole family loved it.

The pius old maid is rescued by a dirty alcholic, only because he has no choice and he feels sorry for her. They don't like one another at first because they are from two different molds; through trials and much suffering they fall in love.
