Passionless Pierce Postpones Performance
Created: 13/08/07
As far as sizzle goes, "After The Sunset" is no "Casablanca!" I'm afraid it's not even "It Takes a Thief" — a genre of film to which "Sunset" rightly belongs and which was defined by the legendary Cary Grant, with the beautiful love interest — Grace Kelly.
"Sunset" has an impressive cast including Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle of "Hotel Rwanda" fame; alternatively chilling, or comedic Woody Harrelson; Salma Hayek — a major, but unrecognized talent who starred and executive produced, in both "In the Time of the Butterflies" and "Frieda," the latter garnering her an Academy Award nomination. This impressive ensemble was led by the Irish prince of charm, Pierce Brosnan who earlier portrayed as the mysterious detective Remington Steele and rose to portray James Bond in four films.
Regrettably, Brosnan postpones his performance at the film's start and never really starts it. He is unbelievably passionless in his portrayal as Max, the lover of Lola, played by Salma Hayek, the Mexican-Lebanese beauty who is secretly desired by most of the world's male population. She deserves more and could find it almost anywhere as her smouldering eyes induce passion!
With the jewel thief plot "Sunset" could well be entitled "It Takes a Thief: The Caribbean." Shot primarily in The Bahamas, where the film shameless plugs South African hotel magnates Sol Kerzner's "Atlantis Paradise Island" property. I'd have to rate this film lower, but for unrelenting beauty of Salma Hayek who makes it bearable to sit through the entire dvd with special feature footage that shows Hayek made-up as a whiskered bum spontaniously surprising her mother who was visiting the set. Please Pierce give some more shake the next time around, this performance was definitely stirred.

This movie Rocks! There is action, suspense, romance & overall, this movie is
a "10" in my book! Woody Harrelson plays an FBI agent that can't let go of the
fact that super thief Pierce Brosnan cannot be pinned down & caught! It drives him to show up on the tropical paradise island that Pierce & Salma Hayek share
a beach front home at. He sets a trap to see if he can get Pierce to try one last attempt to come out of retirement. He wants to catch him & believes he has the fool proof plan. This show is excellent & kept my attention throught out! I didn't leave the room at all during the show, it was that good!

This was a very good show with action, adventure, drama & romance. This movie held my attention also because of the beautiful scenery. The story line was quite good. Woody Harrelson isn't my favorite actor, but he did a good job with the character he played, an FBI agent. Pierce Brosnan is a retired thief who is lured out of retirement for one more heist. His love interest & partner in crime is Salma Hyak. I thought this show was worth the watch.

After the sunset, is a great, action packed movie. Pierce Brosnan is at his best. There are a few jokes and humor in this movie between Woody Harrelson and Pierce Brosnan. Salma Hayek is great with Pierce Brosnan.Pierce Brosnan is better now, than his younger days in Remington Steele. Don Cheadle is the town's thief and is up to no good. There are a few twists and turns and I would have not guessed who set up who.

Masterfully directed by Brett Ratner, After the Sunset stars Pierce Brosnan and Selma Hayek as a husband and wife "high line crime" duo that are split between the thrill of the chase (Pierce's obsession with challenging heists for well guarded and exceedingly rare diamonds) and enjoying beachfront retirement in Paradise with picturesque sunsets (largely Selma's desire). Very well done, quite funny. Selma is absolutely stunning. Very recommended. The depth of the story isn't multilayered or epic like Michael Mann's HEAT, but it is still an enjoyable movie.
