Movie synopsis

The spoof comedy that set the gold standard for all that followed it, AIRPLANE takes shots at the slew of disaster movies that peppered cinemas in the 70s. When the passengers and crew of a jet are incapacitated due to food poisoning, a rogue pilot (who has a drinking problem and is afraid of flying) must cooperate with his ex-girlfriend turned stewardess to bring the plane to a safe landing. No disaster flick cliche is left unroasted, and the musical score itself takes a less than reverent look at overly melodramatic compositions.

Airplane DVD review - and dont call me Shirley!

Created: 23/07/06
For some reason I missed seeing Airplane when it first came out. I was first alerted to this little gem when watching channel 4`s top 100 (or was it 50?) greatest comedy movies of all time. Airplane came in at number 2 on the list.

The next day I grabbed myself a copy on eBay, I have watched it through many times and it still makes me laugh everytime.

If you dont find one of the jokes funny then you only need to wait another 10 seconds before another one comes out and hits you. Leslie Nielson is fantastic in the film, as are the supporting cast.

I honestly think Airplane is one of the best comedy films ever made, which other film contains so many memorable quotes such as:

Dont call me Shirley
I picked a bad day to snop sniffing glue
Tell me Jimmy, have you ever seen a grown man naked?
A hospital....whats that?

In short, if you haven`t seen this timeless classic then go and grab yourself a copy right away but done blame me if you die of laughter!

Must own!

Created: 18/06/09
One of the all time comedy classics, it stands up to anything.
This was a low budget film that wound up outgrossing almost
everything else made that year. Tons of lines that you will
use over and over, great sight gags, puns and so on.
If you hate 'Blazing Saddles', you will probably hate
this, and I would probably not hang out with you anyway.
Worth buying so you can watch it whenever you need a pick me up.

This Is Probably My All Time Favorite Movie!!

Created: 18/04/09
You have to have a slapstick sense of humor to truly appreciate this film because this is certainly a slapstick comedy! Definately one of my favorites! Some of the funniest movie lines ever written appear in the script for this movie. Sure its an oldie but it loses nothing in its japery due to its age. If you possess a zany madcap sense of humor as I do, make sure you put this movie on your list of must sees!

Vintage & Wacky Movie!

Created: 11/03/09
Maybe I'm tough on movies, but comedies get a higher rating from me with their unexpected and "laugh out loud" humor. I had a few good chuckles watching this movie, and it kept me engaged throughout. Comedy is subjective and hard to please all, but I give this movie a non-enthusiastic "thumbs up." If they had 1/2 points it would be between average and good for me.
