Alien Nation - The Complete Series
Created: 14/10/10
I saw this tv series when it originally aired in 1989. I always regretted that it only lasted one season, although a series of 5 made-for-TV movies, with the original cast followed, which are also available on dvd on eBay. I had tried without success to get a copy via my library system, so I turned to eBay and there it was! I've seen this series described as a cult sci-fi show which details the lives of space aliens who look very human, as they struggle to integrate into American life. (It is based on the theatre version film of the same name starring Mandy Patankin. I can't compare the two since I've never seen the theatre version film.) If you're old enough, think Roy Thinnes in the tv series "The Invaders". This story line could be very good or very bad, but luckily enough the writing, including a wicked but understated sense of humor, the story lines and the acting here are all first rate. Its a very fascinating premise; the aliens appear slightly differently from humans, but are easily identified. What happens to this new minority reflects the entire range of the human character, from the very best to the very worst. This series is like a good book that you are really enjoying, you want to know the ending but you don't actually want it to end!

Alien Nation, The Complete Series

It's nice to relive the magic of yesteryear, and
this series was no exception. Science Fiction
fans such as myself enjoy seeing the old shows
and discovering new faces we've seen before. I
never knew the actor that played G'kar in Babylon 5
was a bad guy in Alien Nation. I wonder how many
more people we now know played roles under the
makeup before we knew them?
The humor and the cultural references have not
been too dated. I find this pertinence to today's
state of affairs interesting.
All-In-All, a Good Show....Worthy of a repeat showing.
Even if Sykes was a Vulcan that gave Scott Bakula
a hard time on Star Trek: Enterprise...

Good Shows Still Exist

I enjoy turning on a show and feeling refreshed. Not offended, nor traumatized by it. Few shows have been created that shows the treatment and respect between people with as much love, kindness, empathy as Alien Nation the series. People need not be someone who looks like us, sound like us or even share the same social mores. People can be someone we learn to like, care, respect and even come to love and this show is just oozing with it. The new generation today have seen enough violence, hatred and prejudice and they can only see us as monsters, shows that can portray us in a light of love, respect and kindness can only help them to see not everything has to be wrapped in violence to be enjoyable, funny and acceptable. And this is why I chose to buy the series to introduce my young one to a better view of what a good show is all about. And she laughed, loved and ooohed with me. And this is why I highly reccommend the series.

ALIEN NATION

ALIEN NATION WAS NOT ONLY GOOD SI FI, IT ALSO SHOWES US HOW WE ARE LOOK UP ON BY OTHER BEINGS, IT ALSO SHOWES US THAT OUR IMPRESSIONS OF OTHERS DIFFERENT FROM US LEADS US TO EXAMINE WHO WE ARE, AND WHY WE THINK OTHER PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT FROM US. WEATHER WE BE ALIENS FROM ANOTHER WORLD OR JUST FROM A DIFFERENT BACKGROUND, ALIEN NATION MAKES US LOOKS AT DIFFERENT PEOPLE NOT ONLY FROM OUR EYES BUT HOW WE LOOK TO OTHERS. ITS GREAT SI FI AND WELL WORTH WATCHING. IT SHOULD RANK WITH STAR TRECK AS A CLASSIC TV SERIES ONE WORTH WATCHING OVER AND OVER. AND THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT IT BOTH ENTERTAINING AND THOUGHT PROVOKING. ENJOY.

I enjoy science fiction and I consider this series as good as "Planet of the Apes" movies. I think it is much better then the original movie with James Caan.
