All Dogs Go to Heaven (DVD, DVD Cash)

Don Bluth|Theatrical release: 1989|Rating: G (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Set in 1939 New Orleans, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN tells the story of Charlie (Burt Reynolds), a likable but mangy dog who escapes from the dog pound and teams up with his old buddy, Carface Malone (Vic Tayback). But when Carface double-crosses him, Charlie ends up at the pearly gates, where he is told that he will be allowed in when a record of his good deeds is found. Thus returned to earth, Charlie becomes the protector of a little girl (Judith Barsi) as he plots to take revenge against his murderers. Expertly animated by Don Bluth's studio, this tale deals with complex themes better suited to older children, making the film an interesting and rewarding viewing experience.

This is an excellent children's movie but I still love it!!! I bought it on DVD while I was conforming all of my old VHS. The story follows a small orphan named Anne-Marie (who looks like a MUCH cuter version of princess Snow White) and her ability to talk to animals. She runs into Charlie B. Barken, a scruffy German Sheppard with a heart like a marshmallow and Charlie's best friend, Itchy. The three of them go on a journey to find out how Charlie ended up in heaven in the first place, and the discovery of love within their hearts.

This movie is wonderful for childern!! My two year old daughter loves it!! She walks around the house saying "puppies please". So cute :) The movie has good values that they teach little ones. I love that they teach the value of friendship and that good over comes all evil. There are a few scary parts though when Charlie (the main dog) is dreaming about going to "the bad "place" after he dies. In the end though all dogs go to heaven, because unlike people dogs are naturally good. <- Quote and tag line from the movie. I recommend this movie to any child who loves animals and loves to sing-a-long with the music in movies. I give this movie a A+!!! Just be careful, once they watch it they are going to want to watch it again and again and again. :)

Great animated family movie. Voices of Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Charles Nelson Reilly. Everything old is new again, your kids loved it in the 1990's, and the next generaion will too!

Classic

This is such a good, classic movie that I bought for my sweetheart. There are so many adult things in this movie that we didn't understand as children, like the seriousness of "orphans," gambling and casinos, double-crossing, revenge, helping others, and the hype with Mardi Gras and New Orleans. It's better now watching as an adult. :D
