Album Notes
Electric Light Orchestra: Jeff Lynne (vocals, guitar); Bev Bevan.Liner Note Author: Jeff Lynne.Photographers: Michael Putland; Ian Dickson; Gary Merrin; Fin Costello.Although there's no shortage of Electric Light Orchestra collections on the market, 2005's ALL OVER THE WORLD finds the middle ground between 1995's extensive two-disc STRANGE MAGIC set and 2003's THE ESSENTIAL ELO. Except for the baffling omission of "Can't Get It Out of My Head," the majority of the British band's majestic 1970s pop hits are here. This disc's real service, however, is its inclusion of lesser-known selections, including "The Diary of Horace Wimp" (from 1979's DISCOVERY)--which is, along with the epic "Mr. Blue Sky," one of the group's finest Beatlesque tunes--and the soaring title song (from the XANADU soundtrack).Throughout the compilation, bandleader Jeff Lynne's brilliantly layered production and keen sense of popcraft are more than evident, particularly on the deft, unbelievably catchy disco/rock hybrids "Evil Woman," "Turn to Stone," and "Shine a Little Love." The non-chronological order and lack of individual song dates here can be frustrating, but ALL OVER THE WORLD attempts to make up for this by featuring liner notes by Lynne himself. In most respects, this 20-track collection trumps THE ESSENTIAL ELO, making it an excellent starting point for newcomers to the glorious pop sounds of Electric Light Orchestra.

High School Nostalgia - Music by ELO !!!

Created: 01/07/08
I was so elated to know that in 2005 this album had been transformed to CD form. I searched high and low for this CD by Electric Light Orchestra. I had this album when I was in High School. I had heard a blip of one of their songs a couple of years ago and immediately the reminiscing of their music began to ring in my head. That year for Christmas, I put on my wish list a copy of the very best of ELO's Greatest Hits ... I really didn't think anyone would even attempt to search for it. To my surprise, my sister-in-law is an avid ebayer and she found it right away! It was wonderful for me on Christmas morning... however, my joy would soon come to an end... as I took it to work to listen to. I had it in my stereo in my office and seemingly one day it just vanished! I decided to get on ebay a week later and search for this CD myself.... I found it right away... I have no real reason for enjoying this group; other than nostalgia. I like to listen to it when doing housework (I dance all over the house).. my 15 year old claims to hate the music; but she gets tons of enjoyment from the deep belly laughs she gets just watching me dance all over the place when I have it playing. I highly recommend this CD by ELO... for anyone who was in high school in the 70's... it will flood your mind with memories you only THOUGHT you forgot !!! :-)

All Over the World: Very Best of ELO

Love this CD. What's great, aside from all the other songs, is it has Jeff Lynne singing Xanadu, which makes all the difference in the world for me with this song (sorry Olivia). Also Rockaria has the beginning "Oops" on it, which is always fun to hear it wasn't snipped off. I could name a few other songs which I wish made it onto this CD -- "Waterfall" comes to mind -- but I have other CDs with that song, anyway.

We've loved Electric Light Orchestra since we were teenagers and miss that type of music - this CD brought back great memories and having all the songs on one CD makes it more enjoyable!

I was looking for the song "Hold On Tight" ..."To Your Dreams" for my son and I to dance to at his wedding. We were wanting a song that was "positive" and uplifting...but not "sappy" or "slow" this one fit the bill. I was glad to find it on Ebay! To my surprise there were songs on this CD that I had all but forgotten! Really enjoying listening to it. Thanks!
