Outstanding!

My great-uncle built his vacation home in 2007 and he had his VS4121's no later than 2008. These are by far the best desktop speakers I've ever heard. After hearing them for the first time, I was hooked. The highs are very detailed and have no distortion from what I've heard. The mids are phenominal, as they really do fill the space they occupy quite well, whether turned up or at a low comfortable volume. The bass is breathtaking. The lows were very impressive as they were capable of simulating the sound of a live jazz bass guitarist. They really accomidate to your unique listening style at ease, and don't break the bank while doing so. I'd definitely compare these to Bose Companion 5 desktop speakers, and at the price you're paying for the Altec Lansing VS4121's, the winner is evident. Just bought mine a few hours ago and can't wait to hear them!

Great Set of Speakers

These speakers sound great for a basic computer set up. The 2 speakers are clear and the subwoofer is just right. I'm not a gamer but I do listen to music all day long. This is a great setup for what I use them for.

I tend to find these better than Bose!!

I have tried Klipsch speakers. The sound is amazing, but they blew out in a month. I've tried some BOSE Companion 5 speakers and they were wonderful. One day, I went to Best Buy and checked the Altec Lansing speakers and noticed that they sound just like the BOSE Companion 5 speakers!!! I checked the price and I felt ripped so off by BOSE. So, off the BOSE speakers went and in the Altec Lansing speakers came and I haven't made one regret! I've had these speakers since January of 2007 and they are still sitting next to the computer as of today! I get LOTS of compliments from guests who come over. They look at the speakers and are shocked that all this sound came from those speakers! They get even more shocked when I tell them how much cheaper these are from BOSE!

Altec Lansing not bad for the money
Created: 16/08/09
The system has good midranges and highs. It is very crisp and clear. The bottom end is mushy and sloppy at times - it sends out big blahs instead of tight, clear bass tones. The system is easy to set and have going in a few minutes. Overall the system is solid for the price and I would buy it again. If you want fantastic, high end sound requires high end dollars.

You Get what you pay for

Well, I don't normally complain. After reading other reviews about the ALTEC LANSING VS4121 speakers, I'm inclined to agree that the bass is extreme, and does have and annoying humm. Other than that, sounds great, and easy to install. Great price. But you get what you pay for.
