    Album Notes
Personnel: Willie Dixon (vocals, bass); Johnny Shines (guitar); Walter "Shakey" Horton (harmonica); Sunnyland Slim, Lafayette Leake (piano); Clifton James (drums).Reissue producer: Lawrence Cohn.Includes liner notes by Pete Welding.Digitally remastered by David Mitson (Sony Music Studios, Los Angeles). This is part of Legacy's Roots N' Blues series.Titling an album I AM THE BLUES might seen like an unseemly boast, but if there is anyone in blues history who can stand up to that piece of bravura, it's Willie Dixon. Over the course of his career, and in particular during his tenure at Chess Records in the '50s and '60s, he produced most of the best work of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and a host of other greats. He also penned a suitcase full of tunes that defined Chicago blues, easily the most influential strand of the blues in the post-war era. Here, he tears into nine of them along with his crack band of Chicago All-Stars, including phenomenal blues harmonica player Shaky Jake. The result is as close to a blues master class as you're likely to hear.

    Editorial Reviews
4 stars out of 5 -- [T]he LP has an air of relaxed informality about it, thanks to the way it showcases Dixon reinterpreting a selection of what had, by that time, become self-penned blues standards...

Blues legend Willie Dixon delivers his best

    Created: 03/12/06
Willie Dixon's "I Am The Blues", is a must have for those into blues/rock. Fist released in the early 70's. It's a CD of the most famous songs covered by the likes of: The Doors, Zep, Stones, Cream & others. I saw a live show with Willie Dixon in a small club in NYC over 25 years ago and it was magic time. Backed by a great band with many from the SNL house band did a great set. Willie Dixon would pass on a few years later, But this masterpiece now lives on & many feel his orignal tracks are the best. But I feel the covers are part of the history of rock which haven't matched. Zep did on the first album "You Shock Me" & "I Can't Quit Yoy Baby" enuff said. The Doors would cover "Back Door Man" on the debut LP. The Stones would cover "Little Red Rooster" early. Johnny Rivers & his top 10 "Seventh Son" during the mid 60's & Cream's "spoonful" are just some of the over 2000 songs with the copyright by Willie Dixon. A must have for anyone that wants the best of rock history. You could hear this music once more brand new.Pay the price & own this part of music history.

    Willie Dixon The true bluesman

This is the best blues album I've bought in a long time. Led Zeppelin needs to give him credit. Led stole a lot of songs with out every giving credit to the original artist
