Amazon Kindle Fire 8GB, Wi-Fi, 7in - Black

Kindle Fire is great for reading ebooks. Everything else might not meet your expectations.

Display is too small for reading magazines; Silk browser is very slow; no Flash; MP3 player is not good even if you install a third-party one - there are no hardware volume buttons. And you have access only to Amazon video. No way to use KF for other videos or use any other video player - none of them work properly.

CONS: Heavy as a brick. There is no microphone, no Bluetooth, and no camera. No direct access to built-in keyboard in other languages. Internal memory very limited. No external memory. Comes with no accessories at all.

PROS: It could be handy for those who are familiar with Android apps and know what they need. Email is convenient, you can use Skype (for messaging only) and you can still use your Fire for a number of home applications even without rooting.

However, in a couple of months other manufacturers will be offering similar products at competitive prices with better hardware and more functions, and Kindle Fire will be collecting dust...

The Kindle Fire is an excellent Amazon media device. The smaller size makes it way more portable than my Transformer Prime tablet. I commute by train/trolley here in San Diego, and this little guy is a great companion! It won't replace my "real" tablet, but since it weighs about the same as paperback book, it is in my purse every time I leave the house! I also have a mobile broadband router, which makes the Kindle even more fun!
I recommend purchasing the KF on eBay and NOT Amazon, who ships the device with a full battery and linked to your Amazon account- no password needed for digital purchases!

Very good product by Amazon. I use it in UK but purchased it on here eBay from USA. There are no restrictions related to use of internet. Obviously, since the product was produced for US market at the moment all downloads of Android applications can be done legally from 3rd party Companies.I use Skype (messaging), Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Netflix, Drop-box and many others apps. I can use Amazon cloud space,5Gb is free,upload and download documents,mp3 files, pictures, etc. Also, it is possible to purchase e-books from Amazon UK.
I very much hope in the near future Amazon will open all its services also in UK and Europe(wonder why this is not done already),quite big markets I think.
I don't agree with some comments related to use of video applications since I watch Netflix films, BBC programmes, etc. and video quality if just fine (depends on internet speed).
For me it is a good product and I've got what I wanted. An excellent value for money.

excellent fast little toy. If you are looking for something to browse the internet and play games, this is the tablet for you. there are tons of apps that you can download, magazine subscriptions from amazon, books,comics. this thing has it all except a word processor(may be an app out there i don't know or care, for if i'm going to type itll be on a keyboard)and gps i believe, but who doesnt have a smartphone or garmin now-a-days, I LOVE that it is backed by amazon. This is for you typical person who just wants to sit on the couch and browse.

I love my Kindle! I never thought I would say that but it's true. I love being able to carry several books, music and even movies with me wherever I go. Now I can't imagine what it would be not to have this access.
Just two small things I wish it had is a longer battery life, mine only seems to last about 4 hours. And a memory card slot, but maybe that will be coming in future models.
I don't use it as a phone, so don't expect the camera and other features I would have had in a smart phone, but then again that is not what it was bought for.
For the money, the value cannot be beat. I actually had an android type pad first that cracked on the first little knock it received. I was so upset with how cheaply it was made I almost did not buy this. But when I read about the "gorilla" glass, I gave it a try and am glad I did. It is much more sturdy and durable than the previous android I had. Yes, it even lived through being knocked off the table to my joy. Not that I make it a habit to do that.
One other feature that would be nice, but is an easy fix, is the glare proof glass it lacks. I did have to purchase a film to put over it to achieve glare proofing. But that is not a deal breaker in my book.
Speaking of books, if you are a reader, this is for you, if you like music, this is for you, if you are a movie fan, this also is for you. I cannot say enough good things about it.
