I bought this product for my wife, who's absolutely satisfied with the product.
She's using it on daily basis.
The best additional feature for her is text to voice , with i might say, very decent voice synthesizer, unlike on the other similar products.
Battery life is very similar as on the specs sheet, which makes the reader ideal companion
for the very long use without the need for charger.
The only thing that needs just a little time to get used to is the E-Ink screen refresh time -
certainly not the cavity, but having comparing it to my Apple Ipad there is of course noticable difference
(again, these products are not to be compared, because of the different hardware).
Text marking features are usable, experimental web browser is as it says (opens basic html pages,
advanced things like flash and so arent supported).
Text typing on virtual keyboard is similar like on the most touchscreen smartphones,
but touchpen is very welcomed here (i bought it on ebay for one us dollar), it helps alot
to pinpoint those tiny letter slots .
Overall, very good product for reading text books / material with addition of text marking (like on real books) and text to speech feature which is very usable.
Good choice for people who want the benefit of very low power consumption of current E-Ink screen technology,
but maybe not so good choice for people who want color touchscreen device with fast response.

The Kindle Touch is a fantastic product with only one caveat

The Kindle Touch has had some outstanding reviews, deservedly so in my opinion as I've been the happy owner of one since Christmas (acquired through eBay)and have read several books already using this device.
My family argued as to why I would need it, given I've been reading books on my iPad for the past two years and on other pocket PC devices earlier than that. Simply put, this is a better reading experience. It is smaller, light weight and easy to read in normal (and outside) light. I also use a clip on light for reading at night - works well with the right one. In addition, it is simply to add books to your device, simply drag and drop mobi format books using whatever file manager you have on your PC/Mac.
I commute daily and read when I do, thus this is the perfect device. I would only recommend it for reading 'paperbacks', the iPad is still a significantly better device for consuming news via the web or apps, as well as reading magazines (pdf's). The Kindle can browse the web, but I'd only use it as a last resort.
Overall it is a great device, but with one caveat. Amazon will only sell this device in North America, thus if you want one, the best avenue to buy it is through eBay. This also goes for all the specific accessories that are purpose made for it and this is a right pain as some of the best ones can't or are difficult to find other than on Amazon. The Amazon branded leather case (whilst pricey) is outstanding, but had to be acquired through even more roundabout ways.

Bad: speed, no light, heavier than Kindle 4. Good: display, design.

The display is great, the visible design is good, and the price is awesome.
However there are issues to address. First of all the device contains and infrared touch screen for some mysterious reason which makes it fat comparing to Kindle 4. It's a bit heavier and wider as well.
No built-in light is also an issue. The solution is to buy a very expensive Amazon cover case that costs almost as the device itself. And all this is just for a flashlight that allows you to read in dark (you can't bring light with you everywhere can you?)
Finally, the OS is very slow as well. And that's not about the display that refreshes slowly out of physical reasons. Every operation takes more time that the display needs to refresh. Sometimes up to 3-4 seconds. And if you are to "unlock" and use browser, it'll hung Kindle a lot. So the hardware must be really cheap.
Despite those issues it's good to keep the device in hand and to read books on a beautiful display.

So far so good! The kindle has revolutionised my reading habits. Super light weight, easy to use, so far battery has handled the reading load well (I can read for hours at a time, still on the first charge). I particularly like reading it in bed, without juggling a heavy book or turning your head to get your arms/neck comfortable. Very clear, e-ink is easy on the eyes. I have only purchased a few books so far, but the interface to transfer from a computer to the kindle was simple (didnt use the wifi feature). Definitely recommend to avid readers who tend to have 4 books on the go and want to reclaim their bedside table.

Oh my!!! I bought one for my adult daughter who has two children and not much time to read, with audio books, buying online instead of going to the store and the awesome features I couldn't of bought a better gift. Truly a gift that will be loved for years. Everyday she's telling me other things that it can do. Can't wait till Christmas to give another one that I bought to my Neice that's leaving next fall for college. Text books can be bought on the Kindle. You can highlight and even write notes in the margins. Not to mention not having to carry those heavy books. Awesome product....well worth the money!
