Album Notes
IN CONCERT is a 2-disc set containing ABSOLUTELY LIVE (1970), ALIVE SHE CRIED, and part of the LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL EP. "Roadhouse Blues" from AN AMERICAN PRAYER is also included. This set does not contain any previously unreleased tracks. The Doors: Jim Morrison (vocals); Robby Krieger (guitar); Ray Manzarek (organ, keyboard bass, background vocals); John Densmore (drums).Additional personnel: John Sebastian (harmonica).Compilation producer: Paul A. Rothchild.Recorded live in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Copenhagen between 1968 and 1970.Personnel: Ray Manzarek (vocals, organ, keyboards, keyboard bass); Jim Morrison (vocals); Robby Krieger (guitar); John Sebastian (harmonica); John Densmore (drums).Audio Mixers: John Haeny; Rick Hart; Bruce Botnick.Recording information: Boston, MA (1968-1970); Copenhagen, Denmark (1968-1970); Detroit, MI (1968-1970); Los Angeles, CA (1968-1970); New York, NY (1968-1970); Philadelphia, PA (1968-1970); Pittsburgh (1968-1970).Photographers: Joel Brodsky; Ed Caraeff; Paul Ferrara. This two-disc set contains almost all of the material from the band's live releases, and paints an accurate picture of the magic these trailblazing iconoclasts were capable of making onstage. Free from the strictures of the recording studio, the Doors were able to stretch out both musically and conceptually, with extended jams and Morrison's spontaneous poetics making once-familiar songs into exciting new explorations. Speaking of extended pieces, the full version of the legendary "Celebration of the Lizard" is included here, in all its extended, suite-like glory. In front of an audience, the band's more visceral side prospered as well, as witnessed by versions of "Roadhouse Blues" and "Love Me Two Times" that make the studio versions seem almost tame in comparison.

The only Doors live album you'll ever need

Created: 06/01/11
Perhaps, aside from the Bright Midnight Archives for bigger fans, if you want a live Doors album, this is it. Forget about the one-disk "Absolutely Live" or seeking out the rare JP "Alive, She Cried". This digitally remastered and includes both of the aforementioned, plus a few from "Live At The Hollywood Bowl". (Might as well get that one on the 30th commemorative DVD anyhow.)

I've listened to some of the Doors' live stuff on boxsets over the years and most of it does not have very good sound quality. And while both the boxset material and these disks include some doctoring and splicing of performances, here it is seemless, whereas it is obvious and jarring on the boxset material.

For those who are not familiar with the Doors' live shows, they opted to use a lot of cover songs and poetry inspired non-LP stuff over many of their hits. As such, this is a very different experience and is as much another complete Doors' album as it is a live one. While that sounds like this could be weaker than all of their albums, this is actually my 4th fav Doors album (after SD, ST and L.A.W). Go Insane and Celebration of the Lizard are both electrifying and haunting. Close To You is quite rocking and Ray shows he can sing the blues along side Jim and not pale, unlike the 2-post Morrison LPs.

NOTE: Roadhouse Blues from An American Prayer and Greatest Hits 1980 is also included. This is often sited as the best version of this song. It is a splicing of 3 perfomances! 2 for the song and another for the end speech. Pure engineering gold.

The Doors Alive

Created: 10/04/08
This was the premier "Live"(and only one)from the Doors in the 70's. Between his banter with the crown(quite funny)or his full compiled version of the Celebration of the Lizard, it was an ultimate Door's recording. Life gets better as more record companies decide that albums such as this should be put back out on CD. I suppose if music was better now, actually performed rather than manufactured, this would slip into obscurity-outside of Doors fans. The grit and power of the music is incomparable to todays pretenders of moaning mainstream music. If you want to know the Door's outside of Light My Fire choose this - it will alter your sence of perception of 60's-70's music. Rock Hard with driving passion. Otherwise leave this alone and you will never know how everyone else interperated their music into their own.

Ultimate get for any Doors fan

Created: 21/07/09
This double disc album rocks my world when I insert it in my car C.D. player.. They've called it the ultimate Doors album, because some of the songs were edited from a performance in Philly, to a show in New York. Because The Doors were a lotta improv on the spot, theatrical band cutting and pasting songs together is a great idea. You never know what you're gonna get when you press play. Each time I hear a song, it takes on a different meaning to me. This is 'the bomb' to me. I lovve it. Jim Morrison does a lot of, in my opinion, improv and or freestlye singing. Get it, got it good.

THE DOORS- "IN CONCERT" (CD 1991)

Created: 14/10/08
Every Doors Fan should have this one in their collection. If you can find a copy...get one, you won't be dissapointed. Sound quality is great. It's nice to hear Jim improvising and letting loose. Gives the listener quite a different color & appreciation to the same tunes recorded in a studio and heard on the regular Doors CDS!! A MUST!. NO dislikes.

INTENSE

Created: 13/09/06
This one is VERY intense for those that like myself that just WISHED they could of attended a concert. This collection will indeed give you the FEEL of it all with a sense of wanting to REACH out to Jim. You can almost SMELL his drunken breath under some of his words. This set is the PERFECT GIFT for the TRUE Doors Fan!
