The Amityville Horror is Gory & Gross... and Fun
Created: 25/01/06
Let me preface by saying this is a great date movie. It also looks spectacular on any big screen TV. Ryan Reynolds moves away from the teen movies and into a horror role - where he really does excel. Reynolds is superb as the haunted George Lutz - a caring family man who struggles as his family moves to a new, haunted home. There is plenty of gore, violence and suspense. Honestly, I was pretty antsy. Im not sure how many times Id watch this DVD - but its definitely a great Friday or Saturday night flick.

AMITYVILLE HORROR( IS IT AS GOOD AS ORIGINAL!!!)
Created: 08/10/05
WHEN I HEARD THEY WERE REMAKING THE AMITYVILLE HORROR I COULD NOT WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE! I AM A BIG FAN OF THE FIRST I WATCH IT JUST ABOUT EVERYTIME IT IS ON TV! BUT I WONDERED IF THE REMAKE WOULD BE ABLE TO HOLD UP TO THE FIRST? THE FIRST MOVIE STILL GIVES ME THE CREEPS EVERYTIME I WATCH IT. AND LETS FACE IT USUALLY THE REMAKES ARE NEVER AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL, BUT IN THIS CASE I WAS VERY IMPRESSED! THE REMAKE WAS JUST AS CREEPY AS THE FIRST WITH A FEW MORE SCARES THAT WERE NOT IN THE FIRST. REYNOLDS AS THE WOOD CHOPPING (GEORGE) WAS EXCELLENT (WHICH WAS A SUPRISE ALSO) I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM PLAY A ROLE LIKE THIS BUT HE PLAYED IT TO A TEE! IN MY OPINON BETTER! THE REMAKE ALSO TELLS MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE HOUSE AND SHOWS MORE OF WHAT HAPPENED TO GEORGE TO DRIVE HIM ALMOST TO KILLING HIS FAMILY! BUT THERE WERE SOME SCENES LEFT OUT FROM THE ORIGINAL THAT I THOUGHT NEEDED TO BE IN THIS MOVIE! THE FLYS!!! FLYS HAD A MAJOR ROLE IN FIRST FILM BUT NO FLYS HERE! AND YOU ACTUALLY SEE THE GHOSTS OR SPIRITS IN THIS FILM AND I THOUGHT NOT SEEING THEM IN THE FIRST BUT KNOWING THEY WERE THERE WAS ALOT CREEPIER! BUT ALL IN ALL THIS IS A MOVIE YOU WANT TO SEE IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE FIRST OR IF YOU JUST LIKE GOOD HORROR FILMS!
AND IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE FIRST IT DOESNT MATTER THIS FILM HOLDS TRUE TO THE FIRST!!! BUT YOU WILL PROBERLY WANT TO SEE THE ORIGINAL AFTER WATCHING THIS ONE!!!

Better Than the Original, But That's Not Saying Much
Created: 12/10/06
Haunted house, son kills family, hell pit in basement - that was the original. In this one you still have the haunted house and the kid who killed his family but instead of hell pit you have a prison/experiment basement where Native Americans were tortured.
Better effects and acting - Ryan Reynolds is jaw-dropping gorgeous - even the background story seems to explain things a little more - not a good story but explains a little.
Recommended for those who love horror and do not expect much from a remake.

The Amityville Horror Review
Created: 17/10/05
I knew right away I wanted to see this movie. I consider myself a horror movie buff and this movie was a must-see for me. Suspense with just the right amount of scare thrown in makes this movie good. Two times I had to cover my eyes because I was scared! When I have to do that, the movie MUST be good. Now this is the remake of the original Amityville Horror movie starring Margot Kidder and James Brolin. The remake is very close to the original which impressed me. Though I must say, this remake had more suspense than it's original counterpart. Not too much gore and just the right mixture of edge-of-your-seat, spine tingling suspense makes this movie perfect for viewing. Have an itch for horror movies? The Amityville Horror has it all!
