a great movie

Mickey Rourke's performance as Harold Angel is most likely the best performance in Alan Parkers voo-doo thriller based film. Robert De Niro as Louis Cyphere is pitch perfect, as most of his films do, as Harold Angels mysterious cilent. Lisa Bonet does a fanstastic job on playing Ephinny Proudfoot. With amazing performances and a great mysterious movie plot set in 1955 in New York, then New Orleans and finally in Swampy Louisiana, this movie is excellent.

Angel heart is a creepy supernatural thriller starring Mickey Rourke with a special appearance by Robert DeNiro as the mysterious "Louis Cypher" a man who hires a down and out private detective played by Rourke to find a missing singer who owes a large debt to Cypher. This movie is set in the 1940's and takes place in both New York and New Orleans the land of voodoo and is shocking and completely disturbing both traits I love about horror movies I seen it a long time ago and just recently bought it again off of e-bay, it was just as good as I remembered it being, a wonderfully disturbing film, a great time.

Alan Parker best work and Mickey Rourke best acting

Just a tremendous display of talent from Director Alan Parker, Celebrated actors Bobby de Niro, Charlotte Rampling and Mickey Rourke... Excelent theme, to betray your own conscience and living haunted by guilt, you can change your name, adress, memory but something within will always catch up with you, that's how I see Private Investigator Harry Angel (Rourke) relation with Louis Cyphre ( De Niro). Excelent, very entertaining 1940's investigation story with a mystical scent, not really an action investigation movie like L.A. Confidential or an horror paranormal movie either, much better than that, a classic sober masterpiece with Rourke's best performance ever and De Niro always at his best.

I originally saw this movie when it first came out. I believe it was the mid 1980's. I then watched it on cable a couple of times. It is definitely in my top ten movies if all time. Mickey Rourke shines in this New York Private Eye goes to New Orleans Suspense Thriller. I has it all, Voo Doo, Murder, Sex ... and a really strange twist at the end. It is set in the mid 1950's, also featuring Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet. If you like movies like Pulp Fiction, The Shinning, American History X, The Blues Brothers... then you are on the same page as me. I have not bought many DVD's maybe 8-10. This is really one to have and watch once evry couple of years.

an eclectic, outstanding cast in an eerie, controversial story.
set in 1955, a detective (mickey rourke) receives a call from an attorney requesting his presence to meet with his client (robert de niro), who wants to find a "missing" patron.
so starts the hunt for the patron, who is "somewhere down south".
new orleans is the destination in which the detective finds himself. a new orleans one seldom sees, nor does one want to see !
an interesting, ironic parallel can be drawn with the movie, "naked lunch" for sheer weirdness...
WATCH it !!!
