Since the '60s, the band has been purveying its lush, mystical sound with little deviance from form. This two-disc compilation represents all the phases of the group admirably. Mistakenly tagged as prog-rockers, they were really just a psychedelic pop band with some philosophical/conceptual tendencies. Sure, they used an orchestra, but so did the Beatles, for example. The Moody Blues classical-rock fusion is represented by the classic "Nights in White Satin" and the catchy pop-rock side of the band is featured on cuts like "Ride My See-Saw."The band's later work reflecting the changing times, with more reliance on synthesizers and sequencers, as on "Gemini Dream." The Moodies were always at their best on grand-scale ballads, so latter-day tracks like "Your Wildest Dreams" fit admirably in the band's catalogue. As a bonus, some of Justin Hayward and John Lodge's extracurricular work is also included here.
