Apple PowerBook G4 15.2" Laptop - M9422LL/A (April, 2004)

The mac powerbooks use the M9422LL/A lithium ion battery. New, it holds just over 4 hours of notebook power with average use. Slightly less when viewing DVD movies or working with large Photoshop files. Mid-life, they hold about 2 hrs of power, still enough to view an avg length movie. Probably much of the length of usage is due to Apples power management circuitry.

The battery seems to be durable, & more stable with discharge rates once engineers eliminated the causes for over heating (fire hazard). I do not recall the exact number of usage cycles, but it seems it was around 5000 for the life of the battery. (dont hold my feet to the fire over that)

NO lithium battery should be drained to zero power .. as this releases heat/gas that can swell battery casings, and shorten the battery cycle capacity. Instead, leave about 1/4 reserve power and then charge them.
(this is contrary to the requirement for NiCad batteries, which developed cycle capacity "memory" issues if not allowed to completely discharge.)
Battery Care:
Never create a dead short across the terminal of lithium ion batteries, again this is related to the high current capacity and resultant heat surge.
Never puncture their battery casing, since the hydride gel/gas release burns spontaneously in air. Battery contents are also toxic.

Though it may not be the most modern computer money can buy, it is an excellent one, with a stable operating system and sound functionality. Coupled with the appropriate software for one's purposes, it performs with flying colors, which could only be augmented by an extra gig of RAM.
In short, a good machine for simple professionals and students alike, capable of satisfying many goals, as long as they're not dependent on the latest technology.

For me Apple/Mac are the same in some ways. I like the 15" display opposed to the 12" or 13". For those looking for a computer go to HP, Dell or Toshebia. Happy computing!

Like Apple products I've been fortunate to have in the past, this laptop is a wonderful example of quality engineering and functional design. From the sturdy metal casing to the clarity of the screen, and even the back-lit keyboard, this is a machine which virtually *begs* to be used!

I highly recommend this product, or Apple laptops like it.

For an 8-year-old laptop it performs well. There is still plenty of software options for a PowerPC-based Apple. I use mine to write fiction and screenplays. It runs well for the work I do on it.
