Apple PowerBook G4 17" Laptop - M9689LL/A (January, 2005)

I bought this laptop for its large screen and awesome design. I have a newer mac, but I needed the bigger screen for DJing. The laptop's performance is excellent considering that its three years old, everything works beautiful and stands as a testament to Apple's commitment to high quality dependable products. I would recommend this particular model to anyone looking to buy a Mac at a reasonable price.

First of all I'm a Mac guy and always have been. Anything other than a Mac I have found causes me to want to throw it through a wall....and, yes, any Mac can be a "problem" but when they're in good shape they just can't be beat for ease of use. My favorite is the 17" PowerBook G4. (You can see I'm "old school" about this.) I'm perfectly happy with OS 10 and wish Apple had just stopped there and not tried to become something Macs never had to be, i.e. complicated. I liked the fact that OS 10.4.11 could run both 9 & 10 and really haven't found the need to speed up any more than this. I read an article recently that claimed that modern computer users get impatient if they have to wait more than 250 milliseconds for a page to load. I don't think this is a computer problem, I think it's a person problem. Unless your flying a jet in combat there's no need for anything any faster than a Mac can process with OS 10.5.8. Like I said "old school". For me, this old 17 and OS 10 are good stopping points when it comes to computer "growth". On to other things....like taking a slow walk in the desert or the woods. Well, one thing, I wish they'd make a lighter battery for this old 17. Macs ARE expensive of course, so a well taken care of or refurbed Mac of this ilk is a very good buy. Streaming movies? I'd rather use a big screen LCD to see a good movie than a computer anyway....so no need for Intel chip.

I love everything about it! better than specified! it came with a brand new apple battery and 2 new chargers!!! I got a new LCD for it and the machined cleaned up so nicely it looks brand spanking like new! I upgraded the RAM to 2 GB and hard drive to a brand new 160 GB.

I needed to update my aging PowerBook Pismos with 14" screens. This one is absolutely perfect. Being on a budget, I really couldn't go for the PowerBook Pro. But for my purposes, this one stands out. Even though it's about 4 years old, it's in beautiful condition. That's a tribute to Apple and their design qualities, and to the previous owner, who knew how to take care of quality equipment. There is really nothing to dislike about this computer. Every computer has its' own "personality" which you easily get used to. Apple Powerbooks are no different. If you're a Windows person trying to convert to Apple, this , or the 15" PowerBook, are perfect. But, you've got to give yourself some time. It's difficult to get out of Windows.
