Aquamarine (DVD, 2009, Movie Cash; Dual Side)

Elizabeth Allen, Emma Roberts, Sara Paxton|Theatrical release: 2006|Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Based on the book by Alice Hoffman (PRACTICAL MAGIC), the refreshingly innocent AQUAMARINE follows two 13-year-old best friends through the last days of summer. Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque) are inseparable, sharing everything including a crush on lifeguard hottie Raymond (Jake McDorman). But their days of carefree giggling will soon come to an end if they can't find a way to stop Hailey's imminent move to Australia. Unexpectedly coming to their rescue is Aquamarine (Sara Paxton), a mermaid who appears one day at the beach-club that Claire's grandparents own. Emerging from the pool with long blonde hair, eyeliner, and sass, the mermaid possesses everything Claire and Hailey lack--confidence, big breasts, and nail polish that changes color with her mood. If the girls can get Aquamarine (whose fin transforms into long legs on land) used to life among humans and help her find true love, they may get their wish granted for Hailey to stay. Putting their personal feelings towards Raymond aside, the girls attempt to set him up with the mermaid despite interference by a villainous girl who wants Raymond for herself. When the girls aren't on the beach, they're shopping or having sleepovers in bedrooms covered with the marks of teen girlhood: pink bedspreads, pictures of celebrities, and an endless supply of teen magazines. The film's funniest moments come from the characters' attempts to not only master the magazine's many absurd prescribed techniques for getting boys' attention, but also from their having to teach a mermaid to do the same. While the film doesn't exactly argue with the messages spouted by publications like CosmoGirl, it brings them into question by highlighting just how centrally they factor into shaping the "tween" generation. It also suggests true friendship may be more valuable than perfect looks or popularity., IN THEATERS MARCH 3, 2006AQUAMARINE is an enchanted little comedy about a mermaid who develops a liking for a human male, and must be returned to the sea.

This is a great family film that will still the hearts of everyone, no matter what age. This movie is both funny and romantic. Two girls try help a mermaid gain the love of a lifeguard, so they can get a wish for one of them not to move away. We started watching and couldn't stop. It was a great movie.

Charming!

Created: 09/08/06
I bought this for my 10 year old daughter after we saw it together in the theater. It is a cute movie with no bad language or sexual situations (except for a kiss). It is kind of a cross between Mean Girls and The Little Mermaid with a happy, hopeful ending. This movie is one that all best friends (girls ages 10 - 18) should see together!

This is a fantastic movie and came in less than a week! It's the perfect film for kids and teenagers with a lot of laughs, a good plot, and a fairytale come-to-life story line. This movie is recommended to all those who are in the mood for a little sea tale and a search for love. This disc came in excellent condition!

Great Family Film to Watch Together!

Created: 19/08/06
I love that it is a great movie with no violence, etc. This film shows fun, friendship, love, hope, desire. Many things relative to any age. It is about a pair of teenage friends who befriend a mermaid who wants to find love. They even help her with the guy that they have been "in love" with from a distance. They help her to kindle this love and find themselves even better off than they ever thought of.

Very Cute movie for Girls of all Ages

Created: 07/11/06
My 7 year old granddaughter wanted this for her birthday. I watched it with her and enjoyed it as much as she did. There is action, comedy and a very good moral in the story. There are no slow spots or areas where you wish the movie would end. It isn't scary, so children of all ages can watch it. My granddaughter has watched it at least 5 times since purchasing it and that estimate is low. She loves this movie!!! You won't regret owning it if your child truly wants it. It will keep your child occupied for a few hours at least.
