But if you like techno bubble gum this might just be a little slice of heaven. They love it in Denmark, where the album went quintuple platinum, and they love it in the clubs, because the mechanical, boppy, sing-songiness makes for the perfect dance music. "Happy Boys and Girls," the disc's opening track, is a perfect representation of the Aqua sound: "Be happy" squeal the little-girl backup singers. The drum machine kicks in, mechanical high-hat hissing away, and you can just see those European dance floors filling up with happy Danish boys and girls. This disc has a tongue-in-cheek feel to it, as if Aqua is almost satirizing the techno-dance genre, but it's basically harmless, good-natured fun.

Editorial Reviews
...Keeping to Scando-pop tradition, Aqua's music is relentlessly upbeat and club oriented....The band's resume, which includes the score to a children's film in Denmark, reveals itself in the singsongy, nursery-rhyme feel of many of the tracks...
Entertainment Weekly (19971017)

6 (out of 10) - ...AQUARIUM takes the jigged-up nursery rhymes of Europop to their logical, infantilized conclusions....Both remorselessly effervescent and consistently scary...

Aqua is FUN and HAPPY!

Created: 04/06/09
I love Aqua. Their songs are so upbeat and fun (save maybe two on the cd that aren't, but are still beautiful.) I'm trying to replace all my sad music with happy music after coming out of a bad depression, and it's pretty hard to find music that's happy and still sounds awesome and has a good message and is happy about good things, not "i'm a playa and treat women bad i rock" which is so prevalent in most other things. It's fun to dance to, fun to sing to, it's just great music.
Good, fun, happy music is so rare, and I am so lucky to have found this gem in Aqua :)

I'VE LIKED THIS GROUP FOR SOME TIME. IT'S ENTERTAINING DISCO / DANCE MUSIC THAT'S FUN TO LISTEN TO. THE HARMONY IS GOOD, AND THE BEAT IS POUNDING. THE TAKE OFF ON THE BARBIE DOLL IS GREAT, BUT CALLING DR. JONES IS MY FAVORITE.

Clean and has a beat! My favorite techno/pop group.

Created: 03/01/07
Back when this album came out, I remember hearing "Barbie Girl" all the time at the skating rink. It was my absolute favorite to skate to. That techno beat made it so ideal. Anyway, nine years later, I buy an album at a pawn shop because the cover appealed to me. It was Aqua's Aquarius album. I didn't realize who the band was until I listened to the first song, "Cartoon Heroes" and heard that chick's distinct voice. At that point, being a little bit of an obsessive collector, I absolutely had to get the album that had "Barbie Girl" on it. So, I did. And I couldn't be any more pleased with my purchase.

The album is clean. The uptempo songs have that great techno beat that I crave, and that chick has a very beatiful voice when she opens her throat up on the slow songs. To anyone who wants this album, I would also greatly recommend Aqua's next album, Aquarius (which also has a great arcade style computer game on it!). Both albums are very clean, great for kids in their pre-teens.

Aqua's Aquarium

It is a fun CD full of some very fun songs by the Danish techno-dance group. Some may feel that their time has passed but there is something that can draw a person back to it.

Happy customer!

I love the high energy pop on the Aqua Aquarium CD. It provides great music for working out. I chose to purchase the CD rather than download the music because it was much easier than locating all of the tracts.
