The Art of Polymer Clay by Donna Kato (1997, Paperback)

Created: 08/01/10
I had read many reviews on this publication and since I am new at polymer clay, I thought it would be a good "first book" for me to have on hand for reference. I was not disappointed! I love the book - the illustrations along with the instructions are excellent. Even though I think some of the clay that is mentioned has been changed since the publication in 1997, it still gives me the basic idea of what is needed to produce beautiful jewelry and other polymer clay designs.

not a great book for beginners

Created: 01/01/09
I would not recommend this book to a polymer clay beginner. I bought this book on ebay based on other people's reviews. If I had had a chance to open this book and take a look inside, I would not buy it. There is too much text while very few step by step pictures(there are some, but not enough). For a lot of steps, I have to try very hard to read the long paragraph and imagine how it is done. A lot of books published in more recent years are better illustrated than this one. Don't buy this one, unless it costs less than 10 cents.

I come back to this book over and over again

I love this book because it is always good to get back to basics. I have been working with polymer clay for 20 years and even with all of the great new tools and techniques that come out I still find inspiration in just getting back to those projects and techniques that first attracted me to polymer.

Donna does a fabulous job of touching on so many techniques and applications in this book. She is just a true master and each piece of clay that she touches (even the scraps) turns to something marvelous.

I can't wait for her next book!

The Art of Polymer Clay

This was one of my first books on polymer clay. Donna Kato writes in a very understandable style. I love this book and refer to it often as I learn to work in polymer clay. Great tutorials.
