I enjoy history and can not get enough information about our marines fight in WW2. Probably because my Dad was one of them and I am very proud of his contribution. This DVD is among those I prefer because of the first hand accounts of those who fought there. Excellent reports from them, as interesting as Dads. As much as I have watched and read I still heard new information.

A must see for all!

This is a very good documentary which utilizes many images not readily available in a lot of films. I feel a good job was done by really getting down into the foxholes on D-Day, especially, and beyond. One could spend a lifetime studying Iwo and never extract all the valuable information the battle holds. This special is a great jump off point for anyone who is interested in learning about the battle. It will also reinvigorate old scholars of the battle as to the reasons why we began to study Iwo Jima in the first place!

Iwo Jima DVD
Created: 13/03/09
A History Channel DVD and documentary about the invasion of Iwo Jima during
WWII. It covers the initial landings by US Marines and the desperate defense
put up to almost the last man by the Japanese defenders. Much newly discovered
film involved in this DVD and some interviews with survivors also. A must for
the WWII students in the family.

Real footage was a benefit. I am using this as a prelude to teaching a medic class and found that real footage is always a plus to gain understanding. National geographic is a very reliable resource and footage is nearly always true to form.
