AUGUST RUSH – a feel-good film for music lovers
Created: 24/02/11
While it has some small plot holes, and takes a decidedly fantasy-realm turn, this is one of the most enjoyable films I have seen in years. I stumbled on this movie at the library, but found en eBay copy the next day for a shamefully low price.
If you love music - and especially if you are a musician – you will love this film. If you are a romantic at heart, you will love this film. Actually, unless your heart has turned to stone, you will love this film.
- - -
An evening of heartfelt love between two young musicians – one a classical cellist, the other a rock star – turns tragic as her protective father hides an important truth from his daughter. She had become pregnant and her father lies about her newborn son as she awakens from childbirth. She thinks he died in childbirth. He didn't. He is signed over to an orphanage by the girl's father, since she is not yet a legal adult.
The father of the child does not know she is expecting, and dad has swooped up his daughter and whisked her far away. Eleven years later things begin to haunt them both.
The son, however, turns out to be a talented musical prodigy himself, hearing music in the noise of daily life – in the beat of the street and whispers of the winds. Further, he decides by playing music his parents will one day find him by hearing it. He takes the name "August Rush" off a sign, at the behest of a modern-day Fagin, played by Robin Williams.
Yes, it has an improbable ending, but it feels so good you won't care. Get out a hankie. Better yet, make it a towel. (If you are a highl emotional person, make it a beach towel!)
Enjoy!

The acting is fantastic. Robin Williams plays a terrific role; he's such a versatile actor. His character is dark, yet at times, inspiring. Freddie Highmore is truly amazing. You fall in love with his character. You want to believe this "fairy-tale" of love, romance, family, and deep connection of human emotion can exist, and that this story could happen in the real world. Jonathan Rhys Myers and Keri Russell spend one night together and spend their lives apart, both knowing that they had met each other's soulmate, and that they were meant to be together. This is a must-see, feel-good movie. It will make you laugh, cry, and celebrate life, love, and family. The soundtrack is equally as fantastic.

I'm really not sure if I have the articulation skills to convey just how special & excellent that this film is( and deserves). The story, script, directing, acting, vibe, music and everything else about this movie makes it one of the most unique heart-soaring, feel-good films of the 21st century & very possibly of all time. A five star movie, both figuratively(on a 5*-scale) and literally(Freddie Highmore, Kerri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Terrence Howard, and last but not least, the one & only Robin Williams) along with the directorship of Kristen Sheridan paints quite a beautiful picture indeed. Truly inspired story/ screenplay by Nick Castle & James V. Hart. Great original story by Paul Castro along with Nick castle. Superb supporting cast. Oh..And I don't recall anything blowing up in the picture. In short, my opinion_ Grand Slam winner. My IMDB rating is 9.0. Those of you with good taste(Hey, I like gritty heroic war pictures) will not be disappointed. So I loved the total package and decided to buy it because I saw it on rental about a year after it was at the theaters(at least 7 times). Now, I've lost count. sincerely, Von
