Movie synopsis

Filmmaker Thomas Balmes offers an adorable glimpse at the first phase of life in this film following four newborn babies through their first year of life. Ponijao, Bayar, Mari, and Hattie were born in Namibia, Mongolia, Japan, and California, respectively. By capturing their earliest stage of development on camera, Balmes reveals just how much we all have in common, despite being born to different parents and raised in different cultures.

Babies Rule!

Created: 01/05/11
We had heard raves about this video, and it lived up to its billing! A great documentary. The photography is wonderful, especially in the Mongolian and Japanese scenes, and the babies all unfold as charming, very distinct personalities as they adventure through their first year. The real strength of this movie is in the genius of its editing. With almost no dialogue and absolutely no plot, this video managed to be warm, witty, engaging, thought-provoking, and a delight to watch. Impressive!

Great documentary, but shorter than it probably should have been

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The movie is a great documentary on babies. The babies are cute, and the movie serves as sort of a commentary on society, and the differing upbringings and parenting styles around the globe. The reason I can't give 5 stars, is that the movie is rather short; only like 90 minutes or something. You have to believe that in a documentary such as this, that more footage was available, and I as a viewer would really have liked to see that footage. Regardless, it is a good movie, but its a little anticlimactic in the sense that it never really answers any questions, or even necessarily comes to a conclusion.

Fantastic movie!

I loved that there was no narrator, just the movie told the story adequately enough. Babies are adorable, and need no intro, they are cute just being themselves....

Beautiful Movie

Great to see how other cultures raise their children and to witness many events that happen in a child's life that might pass by unnoticed.
