Bakelite Bangles is a veritable smorgasborg of bakelite eye candy. It contains 144 pages chock full of beautiful full color pictures of bracelets in every color under the sun photographed against a white backgroun.
I have two major complaints about the book. One, none of the photos include measurements or dimensions. So, the price guide (which is a simple table at the back of the book based on measuremnts) is rendered useless. Even if the descriptions had included measurements, I felt the author should have made the effort to put price ranges on the bracelets featured in her "Price Guide."
That said, the book still has great merit. It includes good information on testing, describing and evaluating bakelite with all the lingo that collectors use. It also has informative sections on Fakelite and other plastic bangles.
The thing I found most fascinating, was the book rarely has just one version of a particular bracelet. The same style bangle is almost always pictured in two or more colors.
Karima Parry is considered to be one of the foremost authorities in bakelite, I just wish her book had included more detail about the bangles pictured. Bakelite Bangles gets 4 Suns Up.

I sell Vintage Bakelite Bangle Bracelets in an Antique Shop here in Houston...I was very disappointed in the book for two reasons...Prices were not included under the pictures of the individual bracelets..nor measurements which mean a lot when determining the value of my bracelets. I depend on books to help me put a value on my bracelets, and this book was of no help to me....What a shame, such good pictures, but worthless to me...Jackie Garcia....Antiques on Memorial..Houston, Texas

) EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT WITH ANYTHING AS ESPECIALLY ANTIQUE SHOPPING. THIS BOOK PROVIDES THE BASICS FOR THE BAKELITE LOVER...PROVIDES THE TESTS REQUIRED TO DETERMINE FAKES VS. THE REAL THING...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...ALSO PROVIDES COLORED PICTURES SHOWING EXAMPLES...GREAT BOOK...TOO BAD IT IS NO LONGER IN PRINT
